By WALLY WARDEN Pikeville Bureau Chief PIKEVILLE — It ' s beautiful, it ' s beautiful. Kansas City, here I come. Johnny Shepherd was standing in the middle of the wildly celebrating Pikeville College dressing room with a spewing bottle of champagne. The senior reserve ' s words seem an adequate summation of the feeling of the Pikeville College Bears, coaches and fans after Wednesday night ' s victory. Pikeville College whipped Kentucky State University, 90-85, to win the NAIA District 32 championship and send the Bears to Kansas City next week for the national tournament. Pikeville ' s homecourt victory snapped a string of six straight K-State trips to the nationals. ' Minutes after the clock ticked off the final second, the Pikeville College gymnasium erupted into pandemonium. The 2,500-plus fans that packed the tiny Bears ' gymnasium rushed onto the floor and lofted their heroes to their shoulders. Manager Randy McCoy produced a I think our Presbyterian supporters will forgive us for the champagne just this once. ' Across the gymnasium, it was another story. James Oliver, K-State coach, was bitter only about the loss but about what the mistreatment he and his perienced Tuesday night. Oliv had told reporters of sh ' - horns and other noi V players up all r )i5 LC ' ' % 7 Kentucky State l 7 - V -  8 and oilpan altereo -t V V Oliver was quote kl V ould W return to Pikeville an P . . the NA T place Pikeville on pr i for th acts. Coach Wayne Martin, smiling and waving, was carried from the floor into the dressing room and quickly deposited in the showers by several of his players. Minutes later, assistant coach Dan Adams, born in the long arms of Fred Fredrick much as a mother would carry a child, joined Martin in the shower. Bottles of champagne began appearing and the sticky spray doused all in sight. Reserve forward Bill Doug Taylor carefully picked off a stray reporter with an eyeload of the victory brew, just as teammates Jim Kerr and Joey Osborne hustled the pencil-pusher into the •shower room for a victory douse. It was pandemonium. Coach Martin, grinning from ear to ear, said, yetijC «p Final KIAC Standings (Regular Season) TEAM KIAC OVERALL Pikeville 9-1 22-4 Berea 5-5 17-7 Georgetown Cumberland 5-5 12-16 4-6 9-15 Campbellsville Union 4-6 12-11 3-7 8-17 0.
