VARSITY SOCCER M.H.A.L. CHAMPIO S From its humble beginnings in the Mount Hamilton League approximately eight years ago, the sport of soccer has won wide acceptance throughout the Bay Area and has developed into a refined sport which attracts a fine caliber of athlete. Each year the competition throughout the various leagues has be- come more intense and the quality of soccer has improved greatly. The 1972-73 varsity soccer team was endowed with physical size, talent, and dedication. Soccer is very much a team sport and a winning combina- tion such as the Pirates had was realized because of their desire and ability to work together. afar wwf: The backbone of the team consisted of Mike McLane, ' Bob Milz, Rob Pershall and Tom Vance. The team's scoring ability was provided by Calvin Walker, Gabriel Tom, Pat Vance and John Gorospe. The defensive unit was comprised of .loe McNamara, Mike Ziebell, Ken Birmingham and Gene Yoneda. A strong corps of reserves was led by Fred Lugo, Darrell Ogi, Anthony Torres and Tom Safley. 124 Sports l l
