SCOTT Dean and Chaplain ADMINISTRATION The Yonahian 1956 is your Book of Memory of what should be one of the most memorable years of your life. As you turn its pages in long years to come, they will bring back to you, bright and shining, the scenes and faces that have made your days at Piedmont unforgettable. The covers of this book inclose for you leaves scented with such fragrance as drifted from a rose-jar to cheer Thomas S. Jones, Jr.: As in a rose-jar filled with petals sweet Blown long ago in some old garden place, Mayhap, where you and I, a little space Drank deep of love and knew that love was fleet — Or leaves once gathered from a lost retreat By one who never will again retrace Her silent footsteps -- one whose gentle face Was fairer than the roses at her feet; So deep within the vase of memory I keep my dust of roses fresh and dear As in the days before I knew the smart Of time and death. Nor aught can take from me The haunting fragrance that still lingers here -- As in a rose-jar, so within the heart! May you in days to come often breathe deep from this Yonahian vase of memory and find its fragrance richer with each mellowing year! BENJAMIN D. SCOTT Page Nine Faculty ATKINSON AYCOCK MRS. RUTH F. This recognition is the cul- mination of all the college honors and achievements. Page Fifty-One H E T GAMMA CHI PIEDMONT has four societies on its campus — two for women and two for men. These societies, being formed shortly after the foundation of the college, have Zhad a great part in its growth and development. They lw sponsored dances, parties, and many other worthwhile en- tertainments. Candidates for these societies are obtained J by an invitation to membership, which is given to the new students. Upon his acceptance, the candidate is installed — into one of the societies. The installations are events to which the old members look forward. Most PIEDMONT students are affiliated with one of these societies. T S.
