RETIREMENTS Mr . Rudy Davila Mr. Davila, a graduate of USC, started his teaching career at Gardena High School in 1953. He received a Masters Degree from USC in Counseling, and transferred to Peary Junior High in 1965 to become a counselor. In 1968, Rudy came to Banning as an Assistant Principal. The next year he took over the job of Work Experience Coordinator. In 1973, Mr. Davila became the Career Advisor. During his term as Career Advisor Rudy started many job training classes at Banning, such as Telephone Repair and Installation, Telephone Operator Training, Vocational Nursing, and our well known Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. After 25 years of teaching he says he will miss the close contact with young people, and the many friends he has on the Banning Faculty. Mrs. Virginia Van Kirk It was some twelve years ago in February, 1966, that the friendly Pilots said wel- come aboard and I joined the staff of Banning High School as the Girls ' Vice Principal. Previously, I had been at Westchester High School, and prior to that, Fremont High School. Since coming to Banning, Things have really been humming! I ' ve helped to tear down an old building and build a new one. I ' ve seen the school population grow from 1,950 to over 3,600 and had the excitement of sitting in the press box of the Coliseum watching our fantastic football team place second in the City three years ago, and for the past two years become the 1 Team in the City. Believe me, it is with mixed emotions that I shall be retiring in June. To be parting such good company, consisting of both students and staff, isn ' t easy. Wherever I go, whatever I do, I shall never forget my good friends and years at Banning High School. May you always remain the Mighty Pilots . . . the 1 School in the City! •- Mr. George Proust Mr. Proust has been the Librarian at Banning since 1964. Prior to his coming to Banning, he had worked for 7 years at Mount Vernon Junior High in Los Angeles. Mr. Proust was born and brought up in Toronto, Canada. During World War II he was a gunner in the Royal Canadian Artillery. After the war George received M.A. ' s in English and History at college in Canada. He worked as a school teacher in Canada until 1951, when he came to the United States for the first time. In 1955, Mr. Proust became a Librarian, and has been one ever since. He has earned a M.A. in Library Science, and worked in public libraries, college librar- ies, and high school libraries, particularly good old Banning. He is the proud father of six children, three grandchildren, and hopes to spend more time with them in retirement. Faculty 27
