PHIL SEA ZERO ZERO CLUB FIGHTER SQUADRON ONE HUNDRED FORTY THREE 6 June T955 MEMORANDUM From Commanding Officer Commanding Officer USS PHILIPPINE SEA lHome Plate IG Commander Air Task Group TWO view of our recent Fog Bound Operations the following requests and recomm ndatlons are respectlv ly submitted Cougars be installed with a Supersonic Fog Horn for navigational purposes That sounding boards be Installed on the Port Starboard Fore Att Top and Bottom of CVA 47 gator keeps an ample supply for iust such an emergency It is requested that the Navigator instruct the pilots-in Fog Horn operation 2 In preparation of approval of the foregoing requests there are certain clarification of the Rules of the Road plus special Rules of the Road for CVA-47 and Cougar Fogbound operation. Therefore the following questions are submitted- Which IS the burdened vessel ' CVA-47 or Cougar? Which vessel moves to consummate the intercept- CVA-47? Cougar? What fog slgnalsrshould be sounded in the following situations? . A. Cougar backing down? A B LSO signal for cut? C Taxllng on the Flight Deck? It is assumed that fog lights will be used on the Hangar Deck D Submerged Cougar searching for Home Plate ? E. When Cougar Passing to the Port Starboard over or under CVA-47? . further recommended that red fluid be used in the overboard discharge to help in identifying Home Plate' To : ' l V. z . L In , .
