' V-3. Div The constant flow of aircraft between the hangar deck and the flight deck would seem like a chaotic giant checker game to a landsman. Confusing in appear- ance, the continual rotation of aircraft is actually an efficient exchange to provide the flight deck with its current requirements. The four crews of lfE3 QQLUL UML are responsible for the ship's meeting or missing a scheduled flight operation. The handling crews move planes from their spots to the elevators. One careless movement can damage a plane, maneuvering space is at a minimum. Elevators must work to meet the launch, and these, too, are the responsibility of the Hangar Deck crew. Fire among the closely packed planes is an ever-pres- ent hazard and its prevention is in the hands of V-3. Pause for Plane Pushers. Top row: Salazar, R. AN, Travis, G. S., Jr. AB3, Buzkharf, D. Without the 0 aircraft launched from the flight deck would be useless in battle. The men of the U'-6 belt the ammunition, fit the fins to the bombs and rockets, handle the pyrotechnics and napalm, and operate the bomb elevators that deliver the lethal loads to the flight deck for installation on the aircraft. Their work is always against the clock, and work completed, must sometimes be done again due to a change in targets or tactics. Another Belf for Korea Senerius, O. C., Jr., AN Lovegren, A.
