He entered the U.S. Navy on 26 June 1956 and completed Recruit Training at RTC Bainbridge, Maryland. He graduated Damage Controlman A school in December 1956. Master Chief Pelland served aboard the USS NORTHAMPTON ICLC-11 from January 1957 to October 1959. He completed his enlistment contract at Naval Marine Corps Training Center Springfield, Massachusetts in June 1962. After a 3 year hiatus, Master Chief Pelland rejoined the U.S. Naval Reserves Febru- ary 1965 until he was recalled back to active duty in June 1972. Since his recall, Master Chief Pelland served aboard USS JULIUS A. FURER IDEG-61, USS SPIEGEL GROVE ILSD- 32l, USS VIRGINIA CCGN-381, USS AMERICA ICV-661, and Carrier Air Wing 6 embarked aboard USS FORRESTAL ICV-591. His shore tours include Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity, Little Creek, Virginia, Fleet Training Unit, Little Creek, Virginia: and Fleet Training Center, Mayport, Florida. WI' ' 'Aff' ' ' 'L 491 ft. .dmv served as Command Master Chief of Carrier Air Wing 6 at Cecil Field, deploying with USS FOR- RESTAL CCV-591 from January 1991 to Janu- ary 1992. He reported aboard PHILIPPINE SEA in February 1992 as the second Command Master Chief. ' Master Chief Pelland's personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star, Navy Achievement Medal with 2 Gold Stars, Joint Meritorious Unit award, Navy Unit Com- mendation ribbon with 2 stars, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal with Silver Star, Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Humanitarian Service Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal, Southwest Asia Medal, Sea Service Deployment ribbon with four stars, and Enlisted Surface Warfare Spe- cialist. Master Chief Pelland is married to the former Lillian Zito of Freehold, New Jersey. He has 2 stepchildren and 3 children from a previ- ous marriage.

Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Thomas James was born in Chicago, Illinois, on 1 1 July 1956. He graduated from Rutgers College in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in June 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. After attending Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, he was commissioned an Ensign in September 1978. Lieutenant Commander James' initial assign- ment was in USS DECATUR IDDG-311 as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, where he served from June 1979 until July 1982. He then reported to the USS CAYUGA ILST-11861 as the Operations Officer. In 1984, he attended the Surface Warfare Officer Department Head Course in Newport, Rhode Island. In 1985, Lieutenant Commander James was assigned to the USS BRADLEY IFF-10411 as Engineering Officer. This was followed by another assign- Executive fiieer Jonathan T. James Lieutenant Commander United States Navy 'X fr A ment as Engineering Officer aboard USS VIN- CENNES ICG-491. In July 1989, Lieutenant Commander James reported to the United States Army Command and General Staff Col- lege in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, as a student. VVhile there, he was accepted as the first Navy Officer to attend the prestigious School of Advanced Militaries Studies for an extra year of study. Upon graduation in May 1991, Lieu- tenant Commander James was awarded a Mas- ter of Military Arts and Sciences Degree. In December 199 1, Lieutenant Commander James assumed duties as Executive Officer on USS PHILIPPINE SEA ICG-581. Lieutenant Commander J ames' personal awards and deco- rations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Chaplain McElwain was born in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, on 5 August 1955. He graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology in 1977. In 1986 he completed his Master's of Divinity Degree at Central Baptist theological seminary. Ordination was by the First Baptist Church of Turner Kansas on Pentecost Sunday 18 May 1986 Chaplain McElwa1n served as summer associ ated pastor in training at the First Baptist Church Webster City Iowa in 1984 associate pastor of First Baptist Church of Turner Kansas 1985 and 1986 pastor of the Ceresco Baptist Church Ceresco Michigan 1986 to on 17 March 1989 he attended Chaplains School in Newport Rhode Island during the summer session of 1989 Recalled to active duty in February 1990 his initial assignment was to Naval Station Guam where he served as Protestant Chaplain to Naval Station and her Chaplain David M. MeElwain Lieutenant United States Nav I fa. :fir is 4 5 9 E tenant commands until February 1992. He reported aboard USS PHILIPPINE SEA in March 1992. Chaplain McElwain is married to the former Linda P. Raker of Myrtle Beach, 1 South Carolina. They have four children, Noily, Jenny, Carlos, and Wendy.
