Training and maintaining our equipment in fighting condition occupies the majority of the sonarmen's and torpedomen's time while at sea. With the most capable ASW suite in the world, Sonar's mission of detecting and tracking contacts along with the Tor- pedomen's mission of engaging these contacts has not gone unnoticed. Our ASW team is responsible for equipment and spaces located from bow to stern, including the powerful 53B Hull Mounted Sonar, the hard hitting MK 46 Torpedoes, Nixie, and the sensitive Towed Array Sonar.
