Callahan Captain United States Navy ZZ June 1990 to Z4 June 1992 A-if Ei Captain Callahan was born in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the United States Naval Academy, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering. His initial assignment after commissioning was as First Lieutenant and Fire Control Officer aboard USS BORDELON IDD-8811. Following graduation from the Department Head Course at the Naval Destroyer School in 1969, he served as Weapons Officer aboard USS ROBERT H. MCCARD IDD-8221 until October 1971. Follow on sea assignments include: Weapons Officer, USS RICHMOND K. TURNER ICG-2013 Commissioning Executive Officer, USS NICHOLSON IDD-98213 Surface Opera- tions Officer, Cruiser-Destroyer Group TWOQ Commanding Officer, USS 0'BANNON IDD- 987lg and Chief Staff Officer, Destroyer Squadron SIX. Captain Callahan's shore assignments include Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Person- nel, the Navy Post Graduate School at Mon- terey, California, where he graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science, the Naval War College of Newport, Rhode Island, and the Commander Naval Surface Force Atlantic staff where he served as Assis- tant Chief of Staff for Combat Systems. Captain Callahan's awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with three Gold Stars, the Navy Com- mendation Medal with Gold Star, Navy Achieve- ment Medal, as well as numerous campaign and service awards. Captain Callahan is married to the former Maureen Murphy of Chicago, Illinois and the father of two children, Christopher and Colleen.

l .4 , The son of a career naval officer who participat- ed in the battle of the Philippine Sea aboard USS PRINCETON ICVG-231, Captain Becker graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned an Ensign in 1968. Captain Becker's first assignment was to the USS WEDDERBURN IDD-6841 where he served as First Division Officer and Combat Informa- tion Center Officer. Subsequent assignments were Officer-in-Charge of a PCF Swift boat engaged in riverine operations during the Viet- nam conflict, Navigator and Combat Informa- tion Center Officer on USS SELLERS IDDG- 111, Operations Officer on USS WILLIAM C. LAWE IDD-7361, Engineering Officer on USS FORT SNELLING ILSD-301, Executive Officer on USS MCCANDLESS IFF-10841, Command- ing Officer on USS ANTRIM IFFG-201, and Sur- face Operations Officer on the staff of Com- o Commanding ifieer John J. Becker Jr. Captain United States Navy Ulf' H374 M? mander Carrier Group Six. Captain Becker assumed command of the PHILIPPINE SEA in June 1992. In addition to these sea assign- ments, Captain Becker served as an intelli- gence analyst at the Defense Intelligence Agency and as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Naval Education and Training. Captain Becker is a graduate of the National War College and the Naval Postgraduate School with a Masters of Arts degree in National Secu- rity Affairs. Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Thomas James was born in Chicago, Illinois, on 1 1 July 1956. He graduated from Rutgers College in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in June 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. After attending Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, he was commissioned an Ensign in September 1978. Lieutenant Commander James' initial assign- ment was in USS DECATUR IDDG-311 as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, where he served from June 1979 until July 1982. He then reported to the USS CAYUGA ILST-11861 as the Operations Officer. In 1984, he attended the Surface Warfare Officer Department Head Course in Newport, Rhode Island. In 1985, Lieutenant Commander James was assigned to the USS BRADLEY IFF-10411 as Engineering Officer. This was followed by another assign- Executive fiieer Jonathan T. James Lieutenant Commander United States Navy 'X fr A ment as Engineering Officer aboard USS VIN- CENNES ICG-491. In July 1989, Lieutenant Commander James reported to the United States Army Command and General Staff Col- lege in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, as a student. VVhile there, he was accepted as the first Navy Officer to attend the prestigious School of Advanced Militaries Studies for an extra year of study. Upon graduation in May 1991, Lieu- tenant Commander James was awarded a Mas- ter of Military Arts and Sciences Degree. In December 199 1, Lieutenant Commander James assumed duties as Executive Officer on USS PHILIPPINE SEA ICG-581. Lieutenant Commander J ames' personal awards and deco- rations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
