Q Xo COMMANDER JAMES A.SANFORD UNITED STATES NAVY COMMANDER JAMES A SANFORD UNITED STATES NAVY Commander Sanford was born in Miami, Florida. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Following Nuclear Power Training, he served as Auxiliaries Officer, Reactor Controls Officer and Electrical 8z Reactor Controls Assistant in USS SOUTH CAROLINA QCGN 37 5. Following a tour as Operations Officer, USS CONYNGHAM QDDG 17 D, he commissioned USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN CCVN 723 as Assistant Reactor Officer. He assumed duties as Executive Officer, USS PHILIPPINE SEA CCG 585 on 23 September 1990. Commander Sanford has been an Instructor of Reactor Plant Operations and Safety Analysis at the Naval Nuclear Power School, and is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College. Commander Sanford's awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, and Navy Expeditionary Medal. Commander Sanford is married to the former Patricia Ann Curtis of Bound Brook, New Jersey. The Sanfords have two children, Christopher Alan and Sean Eric. He attended the United States Naval Academy, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering. A His initial assignment after commissioning was as First Lieutenant and Fire Control Officer aboard USS BORDELON CDD 8811. Following graduation from the Department Head Course at the Naval Destroyer School in 1969, he served as Weapons Officer aboard USS ROBERT H. MCCARD CDD 822D until October 1971. Follow on sea assignments include: Weapons Officer, USS RICHMOND K. TURNER CCG 203, Commissioning Executive Officer, USS NICHOLSON CDD982jg Surface Operations Officer, Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group TWO, Commanding Officer, USS O'BANNON CDD 98715 and Chief Staff Officer, Destroyer Squadron SIX. Captain Callahan's shore assignments include Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Personnel, The Naval Post Graduate School at Monterey, California, where he graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science, the Naval War College at Newport, Rhode Island, and the Commander Naval Surface Force staff where he served as Assistant Chief of Staff for Combat Systems. Captain Callahan's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal CThree Gold Starsj, the Navy Commendation Medal CGold Starj, the Navy Achieve- ment Medal, as well as numerous campaign and service awards. Captain Callahan is married to the former Maureen Murphy of Chicago, Illinois and the father of two children, Christopher and Colleen.

ETCM QSWD HAGAN Training for the Hump Day 5K Race. irulr 525 Y COMMAND MASTER CHIEF The function of the Command Master Chief is to serve as the enlisted advi- sor to the command on the formulation and implementation of policies perti- nent to the morale, utilization and training of all enlisted personnel and as such, the Command Master Chief has direct access to the Commanding Officer. Additionally, the Command Master Chief is responsible for carry- ing out established command policy in specific areas as directed by the Com- manding Officer and Executive Offi- cer. The Command Master Chief takes precedence over all other enlisted members within a command. ETCM QSWD John Hagan, Command Master Chief, was born in Luton, England in 1946 but raised in Asheville, NC where he entered the Navy in 1964. Upon completion of recruit training in San Diego, he attended ET A School at NTTC Treasure Island. His sea duty tours include USS LESTER CDE-10225, UDT-21, and USS RICHMOND K. TURNER QCG-205 where he qualified as enlisted surface warfare special- ist. Master Chief Hagans shore duty assignments in- clude: NAS Whidbey Island, WA, Navy 8z Marine Corps Reserve Center, Louisville, KY. and NATTC Millington, TN. During his tour as ATC Equipment Maintenance Schools Division Officer at NATTC, Memphis, TN he was selected as Force Master Chief for the Chief on Naval Technical Training. Then, in January 1988, he received orders to the Precommissioning Unit of Philippine Sea to serve as Command Master Chief. His awards include the Sea Service Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Q6 awardsj, Expert Pistol Medal, Sharp Shooter Ribbon, Battle E , Navy Achieve- ment Medal Q2 awardsl, and The Meritorious Service Medal. Master Chief Hagan is married to the former Cathy Moser of Asheville, N.C. and the father of three children, Melody 17, Melissa 21, and Robert 24, a 1st LT in the USMC.
