LCDR EXEC TI E OFFICER Commander Charles Thomas Bush was born in Balti- more, Maryland on 27 August 1945. He began his naval career by enlisting as a seaman in 1966. Ten years later, he had received a Bachelor's degree from St. Mary's Col- lege of Maryland, and had attained the rate of Chief Pet- ty Officer. He attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned Ensign in late 1976. Commander Bush's sea tours as an officer include Fire Control Officer, Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, and Combat Information Center Officer in USS BUCHANAN CDDG-143 and back-to-back tours as a plankowner in USS TICONDEROGA QCG-475, the first AEGIS cruiser, first as Weapons Officer and later as Operations Officer. He later served as Current Operations and Anti-Air War- fare Officer on the staff of Commander, SECOND Fleet. Ashore, Commander Bush has served as Executive Assis- tant and instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy. Commander Bush has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal iGold Star in lieu of Second Awardb, the Navy Commendation Medal, the .Navy Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal iBronze Star in lieu of Second Awardj, and various campaign and service rib- bons. He is married to the former Joyce Dennis of Albe- marle, Virginia. They have three children - Tom, Greg- ory, and Jennifer. Lieutenant Commander Thomas H. Copeman, III, was born in Boston, Massachusetts on 8 April 1959. He grad- uated from Creighton University in May, 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He attended Offi- cer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and was commissioned in April, 1982. . His first sea tour was as Electrical Officer and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS LEFTWICH QDD-9845, ho- meported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Following LEFTWICH, he was assigned as a propulsion plant ex- aminer on the Commander in Chief, Pacific Fleet Propul- sion Examining Board. Lieutenant Commander Copeman graduated with distinction from the Surface Warfare Of- ficer School Department Head Course in December, 1987, receiving Top Snipe Award for excellence in en- gineering. In addition to his many duties as Chief Engi- neer, Lieutenant Commander Copeman doubled as Sen- ior TAO and Senior Boarding Officer during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. . He is married to the former Judy Shortal of Harrington Park, New Jersey.
