ARTHUR OSBORNE Mr. Arthur Osborne, our guidance counselor, joined the Phelps faculty in 1966. We were juniors, unsure and afraid of our futures. He helped us through two of the most indecisive years of OUT lives. We appreciate Mr. Osborne's assistance as We considered future jobs and colleges. He has shown a sincere interest in us, not only as students with teenage problems, but also as young adults who must learn to accept the responsibilities of independence. We, th l f 1 ' e cass o 968, dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Osborne. He has guided us to the doors of our future. Now it is up to us to open them. This year marks the beginning of a new era for Phelps students. ln June, 1967, the people of Phelps and Clifton Springs voted to merge their schools. This merger means many advantages, such as expanded curriculum and improved facilities for students and teachers. It also means the loss of the friendly intimacy of a small school. This is progress and we cannot deny its coming. ln the past, Phelps and Clifton High Schools have been keen rivals. However, when the new school is built and students from both schools join to form one stu- dent body, a new feeling of close co-operation and friendship must evolve. This is the challenge to which the students must rise. We look forward to when the planned merging of the two schools becomes a reality. We accept the challenge of progress and eagerly await the new advantages. Yt we cannot forget all that Phelps High School has done for us, and we will e 7 D always keep fond memories of our years there. ln the words of our alma mater: HTO Phelps High School alma mater sing a glad refrain. Our advisors will always be remembered for all the help they have given us. We thank them sincerely and we hope they will always remember the Senior Class of 1968 as we will remember them. 8 W G M 1 X 1 History and Social Studies: Mr. Edward McChesney, Mr. Leonard DeFrancesco, Mrs. Mary Shelley, Mr. Joseph Kraus, Miss Maureen Dougherty. Adance called c'Teen Twirlii and a roller skating party began our high school activities and our money-making attempts. ln our sophomore year, we elected Lyle Dixon, president, Benjamin Conley, vice- presidentg Karen Goodman, secretary, and Gary Tyman, treasurer. Steven Mattoon, Nanette Soper, and James Kenny were chosen to be our Student Council repre- sentatives. That year, we again sponsored a dance and a roller skating party. Also, in 1966, our class traveled to Rochester to see The Michell Trioi' at the Auditorium, after Which, we went to c'Don and Bob's for hamburgs and milkshakes. In our junior year, we elected James Heffron, president, Douglas Coston, vice- president, Evonne Schweitz, secretary, and Billee Elder, treasurer. Elizabeth Miller, Nanette Soper, Daniel Baker, and Douglas Coston were our Student Council repre- sentatives. The year 1967 proved to be the best yet! A new door opened, the door of unity, as we ordered our class rings. There was a strong desire by everyone in the class of '68 t-o be unique. We accomplished this not only by making our rings standardized, but through our Junior Prom, '4Carousel. Karen Goodman, Robert Quigley, and Marilyn Chester chose a rainbow of colors and a carnival atmosphere for our prom. Frank Fenell and his orchestra played excellent music on that beautiful May evening as we crowned Rosa Flood and Ronald Grube as our queen and king. But we juniors not only held a Prom, we sponsored a roller skating party, and last but not least, a play. The Mouse That Roaredf' under the direction of Miss Roberta St. Jean, drew our class even closer together. Although at times we seemed to do more play than work, Miss St. ,lean succeeded in steering the play to a urotaringv success. Now that 1968 has arrived, and the final door is closing behind us, we can only smile on all those hilarious, tiresome, or perhaps ridiculous things we did. As seniors, we carefully chose Gary Tyman, president, Mart VanKirk, vice-presi- dent, Karen Goodman, secretary, and Pamela VerStraete, treasurer. Elizabeth Miller, Virginia DelVIay, Mart Vankirk, and Edwin uTed Baylard were elected to represent us in the Student Council. A magazine drive, skating party, dance, and a trip to the 'clce Capadesi' made our year a successful one. A junior-senior play, '4The Night of January 16,', under the direction of Miss Roberta St. Jean, and a graduation party at the Clifton Springs Country Club, nearly ended our activities. But n-0 one will ever forget the wonderful time we had the night of the Senior Ball, Emeraude, Billee Elder and Lyle Dixon did a tremendous job with the green fantasy, and Frank Farr's orchestra played the music which led Marilyn Chester and Mart VanKirk up the aisle to the royal throne. In conclusion we wish to express our warmest thanks to Mrs. Loveless, Mrs. 7 Fullagar and Mr. McChesney, our class advisors, and to Mr. Silver who advised us in our freshman year. They were always ready and willing to guide and direct us. - - h' h h 1 l the shall Although graduation will lock the last door of our lg so 00 ycE1TS, Y never be forever lost We c-an see all the new doors opening to us now, and we look forward in anticipation. But because these are doors and not brick walls, we can 100k back' for most do-ors have windows, and windows reveal the memories of 7 years past never to be eternally hidden or forgotten. 7 mfwfj M P CLASSES E i 5 5 Q 3 IZ it Q A 3 y fg First Row: Mr. Joseph Silver, advisor, K.
