When we were timid freshmen, Mr. De, as he is known to most students, gave us guidance and reassured us of our futures. During our sophomore and junior years, he managed to get most of us through World history. At our class meetings and activities, he has shown the utmost patience, wisdom, and a great willingness to help. He has given unsparingly of his time, energy, and enthusiasm for many extra activities. He has shown kindness toward us and understanding toward any problems We brought to him. So we, the class of 1967, would like to express our appreciation for all that Mr. De has done for our class by dedicating our yearbook to him. 6 XZ In Appreciation 1 ': MRS. WILMA KNAPP 2 i cg? p , E! , s 1 X 1 J, .L A! K ' 1 ,.Q 5 xg ' ' at .. 3 MISS MARGARET COLACINO As the curtain falls on our senior year and the lights are being dimmed, We would like to pause for a moment to shine the spotlight on those who through Wisdom and understanding have safely brought us over the bumpy road to graduation. When we stumbled and fell, they were there with a word of encouragement or a helping hand, and We were soon on our Way again. We would like to recommend Miss Colacino and Mrs. Knapp for medals of honor for their courage in the face of trials--of which there have been many. We realize that simple thanks are not enough but we cannot find the words to e , Xpress our true feelings. Therefore, we offer our humble thanks and hope that through that same wisdom and understanding, they will read between the lines and know we mean much, much more. They have the same wants, the same needs - they want friGI1dS and 3 car - they need food, shelter and clothing. I All of this then can become a reality through an appropriate program with opportunities for them to become well adjusted, contributing members of society. The nature and content of sp6C.131 class programs are planned carefully in order to make certain that those students participating have sufficient opportunities for meaningful experiences related to living at home, at school, and in the community with social competence and vocational adequacy as main goals. Historical Background: Under the NYS Education Law, Sec. 4401, art. 89, the Board of Ed- ucation of this school district developed with the Board of Cooperatives, in 1962, a Special Class necessary to provide instruction adapted to the mental attainments of such students. The first class was conducted in the old teacher's room, room 102. Although in the develop- mental stage, special ed t munity obligation. In Se ment of 21, the class was tal instruction. With its increased enroll- then moved to the original kindergarten then being used for instrumen- w ere some older students have been placed on a job and are COHU1- P- buting members of this community with astonishing results. . With the aid of other school facilities special class students may get an Opporfuflify to take dr1ver,'s education, shop, gym, agriculture, and homemaking. We are proud to be an important part of the total school system. 58 Y, 1967, Special class education works closely with the employer and the Division of Q ' .. -s. ' ', -.,g ,. Director John Jarvis has kept all h t e band members on their toes in an attempt to make our band more successful than ever. The Wind Ensemble, a select group of students, was formed in order to play more advanced music and to perform when a smaller group was needed. Among the activities of the band this year were the Winter Concert, the Spring Concert, Com- etitio t p n a Waterloo, and a high school assembly program. The band also marched in Phelps on Memorial Day. Besides the concerts, the Wind Ensemble performed for the Methodist Men's Club, a high school assembly program, and graduation.
