5 History of Class of 1945 ln 1941 fifty-nine Hbootsi' entered training at Phelps Central School. We elected as our commanding officer, Dorothy Hicks. Her 3SSlSt311t WSIS Jacob LOCk6- ineyer, while Eleanor Canne took care of our correspondence. Marion Donnelly had charge of our finances. Mrs. Miller, Mr. Hartmann and Mr. Leader were our faculty admirals. The next year we were promoted to Second-Class Seamen-48 strong. This term Alfred Ruthven, Robert Craig, Helen Converse and Jacob Lockemeyer were our class officers. Mrs. Widmer and Mr. Cook replaced Mrs. Miller and Mr. Leader who had received honorable discharges from P.C.5. In our Junior year 36 of the group started the term. The commanding officers elected were: Jacob Lockemeyer, President, Ellsworth Updyke, Vice-President, Sec- retary, Alfred Ruthven, and Treasurer, Floyd Totman. Up until this year we had been rather an inactive company. But during the year we purchased our Class rings which we like very much. Our MNeptune's Prom was the most successful venture of the year. Admiral Hartmann left us, but Mrs. Widmer and Mr. Cook remained with our company. There were 37 Lieutenants to start our last year. ,lacob Lockemeyer again commanded us, aided by Vice-President Dorothy Hicks, Secretary Eleanor Canne, and Treasurer Floyd Totman. This last year we held a very successful-both social and financial-Christmas Ball. Our Senior Play, held in April, proved that we had some remarkable talent in the group. ln June we are planning to take a shakedown cruise. Mrs. Burns, who took Mrs. Widmefs place, and Mr. Cook advised us in our last year at P.C.S. We'd like to promote Mr. Cook to a five-star admiral for his cap- able help and guidance during our four years. Now that our training has been completed we've realized that four years go by all too quickly. We, the Seniors, close this, our history, especially paying tribute to those who actually became Hbootsn or uprivatesn before they could graduate.
