At the beginning of the school year the sophomore class chose their officers as follows: president, Shirley Nofzigerg vice president, Darold Riegsecker: and secre- tary treasurer, Edith Haskell. Mr. Pollock was chosen as their sponsor. The class had a good time initiating the freshmen. Then, as usual, they were given a party in return by the freshmen. One member of the class, Edith Haskell, was a cheerleader. James Waidelich, Curtis Spangler, John Rychener, Ralph Bruner, and Ralph Gasche were on the basket- ball squad. The sophomore girls became champions of girls' intramural basketball. Their English class gave a radio play, 'My Client-Curley.' as an assembly program in May. Leading roles were read by Wesley Wyse and Curtis Spangler. The Announcer was James Haidelich. All the other members of the class participated also. 28

Miss Hostetler, Anna Rose Meller, Margie Burkholder, Ruth Gisel, Martha May Zimmerman, Marilyn Gearig, Shirley Grime, Anna Nofziger, Rosa Waidelich, Arlene Beck, Glenn Davis, Clarence Bruner, Richard Gautsche, Bernice Rupp, Roger Gilson, Sarah Jane Robinson, Fern Moll. In small picture: Lester Xing, Emogene Zimmerman. Eighteen students made up the junior class this year. Lester King was the presidentg Margie Burkholder, vice-president: and Anna Nofziger, secretary-treas- urer. Miss Hostetler was their sponsor. The class was kept busy throughout the year selling candy at noon. They also sold sandwiches for nine weeks. Roger Gilson w a s outstanding for his excellent basketball record during the season. Clarence Bruner was also on the basketball squad. The class gave their play, Brother Goose,' on April 20 and 21. Anna Nofziger and Roger Gilson played the leading roles. The class took a trip to Columbus with the seniors the latter part o f April. There they visited several state institutions and a radio station. With an enrollment of 36 the freshmen had the honor of being the largest class in high school. Two members, Barbara Huyck and Mary Ellen Nafziger withdrew but two more, Gaylene Downing and Lucile Dunning, were added. Robert Yoder served as president of the class, Junior Grieser, vice-president: Marilyn Nofziger, secretary: and Mary Louise Miller. treasurer. Miss King sponsored the class. Early in the year came the inevitable initiation day. At the order o f t h e sophomores the class came to school dressed in pajamas. A party in the evening com- pleted the initation activities.
