Lester King was the presidentg Margie Burkholder, vice-president: and Anna Nofziger, secretary-treas- urer. Miss Hostetler was their sponsor. The class was kept busy throughout the year selling candy at noon. They also sold sandwiches for nine weeks. Roger Gilson w a s outstanding for his excellent basketball record during the season. Clarence Bruner was also on the basketball squad. The class gave their play, Brother Goose,' on April 20 and 21. Anna Nofziger and Roger Gilson played the leading roles. The class took a trip to Columbus with the seniors the latter part o f April. There they visited several state institutions and a radio station. The class of 1950 began the fresh- man year at school with twenty-seven members. Class officers that year were president,Imegene Beck: vice-president. Bob Eicher: secretary-treasurer, Glen Miller: sponsor, Mr. Kinney. The high- light of that year was being initiated b y the sophomores. Since that year, seven students have withdrawn from the class. Marilyn Haskell was the president of the class during the sophomore year: Ernest Fowler was vice-president: Anna Spengler was secretary-treasurer: and Miss Stockburger was sponsor. Two new members Ernest Fowler and Dick Sharman. lent additional life to the class. The big occasion of the year was initiating the freshmen. In the junior year, William Nef- ziger was chosen president, Luana Leinf inger, vice-president, and Lois Beck, secretary-treasurer. T h e play, nNow and Forever,n was one of the two high- lights of the year. It was given be- fore a large audience two nights in succession. After a lot of hustle, bustle, and hard work, the class fin- ally got the auditorium prepared for the Junior-senior banquet. The affair was planned around an Indian theme. In t h e latter part of April, the class, with the seniors, took the trip to Co- lumbus, where a number of state insti- tutions were visited. Both the boys' and the girls' bas- k s t b a l l teams won the intramural championships. The class gave the play, 'Adam's Eveningn two nights in November. Ellis Acschliman as Adam, and Anna Spengler, his wife, carried the leads. At the beginning of the senior year, the class elected Glen Miller president,Anna Spengler vice-president, Arleta Miller socretaryhtreasurer, and Mr. Rex sponsor. The class held their Christmas party at Lois Beck's house. They first went caroling to a number of homes i n the community. The remainder of the evening, with no lack of fun, was taken up with games, refreshments, and a grab gift exchange. This year the class again went to Columbus with the juniors for the snr nual junior-senior trip. A number of students also took part in the district and state music contests. Imogene Beck was chosen as editor Luana Leininger was and William Nbfziger Marilyn Haskell was of the ULariat.n assistant editor business manager. in charge of the mimeoscope work a n d Lois Beck of the mimeograph work. The copyhwriting was done by Arleta Miller, assisted by Dick Sharman. Anna Spong- ler was the art editor. Bob Eichsr as- sisted her. Busta Yoder and Lois Mer- illat were responsible for the typing. The picture mounting was done by Mary Alice Nofziger. Marlin Rupp was t h e photographer. The other members of the class assisted i n the various duties, such as typing, sorting, and making the dummy. The class honors went to Marvin Frey, William Nofziger, and Lois Beck. Marvin and William tied for valedic- torians,and Lois Beck was salutatorian. Baccalaureate service was held on May 21. The Rev. Russel Dietch from the Christian Church in Wauseon was the speaker. Commencement was held on Tuesday evening, May 23. The speaker as M r. Joseph L. Tucker, from Ft. Wayne. Indi- ana. His subject was WTho Masks You Wear.' The last event of the year was the c 1 a s s night program which was s vaudeville show. On this occasion the salutatory and valedictories for the class were given. 25

Mr. Pollock was chosen as their sponsor. The class had a good time initiating the freshmen. Then, as usual, they were given a party in return by the freshmen. One member of the class, Edith Haskell, was a cheerleader. James Waidelich, Curtis Spangler, John Rychener, Ralph Bruner, and Ralph Gasche were on the basket- ball squad. The sophomore girls became champions of girls' intramural basketball. Their English class gave a radio play, 'My Client-Curley.' as an assembly program in May. Leading roles were read by Wesley Wyse and Curtis Spangler. The Announcer was James Haidelich. All the other members of the class participated also. 28
