Gottschalk served his sixth year as superintendent and his twenty-first year of service at Pettis- ville this year. Besides carrying out his duties as superintendent, he taught general science and physics. He was also the sponsor of the Student Council. The office of principal was again filled by Mr. D. E. Springer who taught the following classes: American democ- racy, World history, civics 8, and Eng- lish 7. He was the coach of both the junior-high basketball squad and t h e baseball team. H e also directed the senior play. Miss Ruth K. Wyse is one of the teachers who has been teaching ever since school has been held in the present building. She again taught all the high school English classes and Journalism. Besides teaching, she duties of advising both the WLariat.n She was of the seventh grade. Besides teaching classes, Mr. Mark Ray lish 8, mathematics 7, sponsored grade 8 and directed the junior play. This was his eighth year at Pettisville, Mr. Robert Rex again carried the responsibilities of c o a c h i n g the basketball s q u a d. He taught health, algebra 1 and 2, biology, and physical education. Mrs. Rex taught t h e third grade. Both of them have taught two years at Pettisville. They live 1 n Pettisville. Mr. James A. Edington taught a l 1 music i n the school this year. The choir, junior choir, boys' and girls' glee clubs, orchestra, and the band were all under his direction. A great deal of his time was spent in giving lessons, both vocal and instrumental. The school's new commercial teacher continued h e r 'Pet Echoes' and also the sponsor several history also taught Eng- L W w a s Miss Jean King from Wauseon, Ohio. She is a graduate of Bowling Green State University. She also attended Wheaton College in Illinois. She taught typing l and 2, Junior business, and bookkeeping. She was the sponsor of the freshman class. M i s s Rheta Mae Hostetler, from Aurora, Ohio, was the new home economics teacher. S h e received her degree fro Goshen College. Besides teaching a 1 1 home economics classes, she t a u g h t several physical education clas s e s. Also, she was the sponsor of the junior class and directed the production of the banquet. Mr. Ronald Pollock was the school's first vocational agriculture tea c h e r. He received h i s B. S. and M. S. from O h i o State University. This was his first year at Pettisville. He served as sponsor o f the sophomore c 1 a s s. He is married and has two children. Mrs. Ada Weber Genter resigned her position as secretary of the s c h o o l during the year to take up the entirely d i f f e r e n t career of mother. Her daughter, Donna Jean was born April lb, 1950. She continues to be clerk of the school board. After M r s. Genter's resignation, Mrs. Gottschalk performed t h e duties of school secretary. Mrs. Mildred Rychener t a u g h t the sixth grade as she has been doing t h e past few years. Her teaching is d o n e in addition to her homemaking duties. Miss Alta Spiess again was t h e teacher of the fifth gradet She also is one of the teachers who has been teaching at Pettisville since school began in the present building. The fourth grade was taught by Miss Sadie Miller, who has taught this class f o r a number of years. She lives near Archbold and drives t o school every day. Miss Margaret Buckmaster was the second grade teacher for t h e second consecutive year. She is from Napoleon, Ohio. Mrs. Florence Lindley, who formerly taught the second grade, taught the first grade as she had the year before. Mrs. Florence Porter taught t h e kindergarten class. In several previous years she had taught m sic in the lower grades. 8
