I Page 42 hfnrcwnurcd Sports The intramural sports committee, com- posed of Louis Haskell, Russel Liechty, Helen Roth, a n d Virginia Nofziger, ar- ranged for five sports to be played this year. Volley ball, ping pong, horse shoe, soft ball, and basketball were all enjoyed by anyone who cared to participate. Basketball, the first sport played, kept boys and girls alike from the fifth through the twelfth grades occupied for a good share of the winter. The champion- ship games were very exciting. The junior boys beat the senior lads by a score of 20-15. The senior girls came out on top. however, by beating the Junior girls 23 to 22. Much class spirit w a s aroused by these contests. Volley ball was not played as a reg- ular intramural game, but anyone who cared to join a game at noon was welcome to do so. During the same time volley ball was being played, a tournament of ping pong was set up. Anne Spengler a n d Richard Schmitz were the champs of the girls' and boys' tournaments. The sophomore girls' softball team was the undisputed champion o f the noon games. Arleta Miller, Bueta Yoder, Mary Alice Nofziger, Lois Beck, Anna Spenglen Lois Merillat, Marilyn Haskell, Imogene Beck, and Luana Leininger played on the team. Umpires were Glen Miller, Lowell Rupp, and Richard Grieser. A horse shoe schedule was arranged, but was not completed before publication. All winners were awarded letters that the Student Council bought.
