SPIRIT WEEK: Harvest Moon Homecoming activities started with Spirit Week. Hilarious costumes were worn on each of the designated days: Crazy Day, when students dressed in anything and everything; the traditional Fifties Day; Punk Rock Day, which produced some weird costumes; Sunglasses Day, and Purple and White Day. On Thursday, the Booster Club sponsored a pep rally. The week was topped off by the football and volleyball games against Wheeler-Central on Friday and the Homecoming dance on Saturday. Top left. Juniors Sharon Wilton, Brenda Staashelm, Kim Thieman, Jerry Stuhr, Diane Spieker and Jackie Thieman line up in front of the Spirit Week poster on Fifties Day. At left, Kim Petsche and Jennifer O'Cilka show off their wild outfits on Punk Rock Day, while typical of the boys, Randy Johnson and Todd Jennings limit themselves to sunglasses, earrings and ripped shirts. Top right, the Booster Club sponsored bonfire stands ready to be lit, moments before the storm hit. Above, Randy Johnson runs for yardage during the close loss to the Wheeler-Central Broncos. Top right, Sophomores Brenda Spieker and Jennifer O'Cilka try out a few Jitter-bug steps in 50's Day costumes raided from their mothers' closets. Above, Freshmen Lee Ketteler, Randy Pelster, Neil Ketteler and Jim Knust (front) get into the spirit of Punk Rock Day with earrings, chains, tattoos, and strange coiffures. Center right, two of the most conservative Punk Rockers in the school turned out to be Dale Henn and Jeanine Ketteler, who appear to have gotten a head start on Sunglasses Day. At right. HOMECOMING Moonglow Lights The Sky The climax of the Spirit Week activities was the Homecoming Dance held on Saturday night. The Pep Club, which sponsored the dance, decorated the gym in pink, burgundy and white streamers. The theme Another Illusion was taken from the song Hard Habit to Break by Chicago. Music was provided by Sounds of Your Kind of Music. The new royalty and their court, elected by the student body during Spirit Week, were honored during a special coronation ceremony. Last year's Queen Mary Jo Henn and Rolan Knust, substituting for King Mike Spieker, were on hand to crown Tom Temme and Jeanine Ketteler as the 1984 Homecoming King and Queen, respectively. Top right, 1983 Queen Mary Jo Henn and King Candidate Rolan Knust dance to their theme song Total Eclipse of the Heart. Above, Queen Jeanine and King Tom receive their crowns, while senior candidates Dale Henn and Roger Seier look on. Center right, the 1984 Royalty Queen Jeanine Ketteler and King Tom Temme relax and smile as family and friends take pictures. At right on both pages, underclass candidates for the court excitedly await the announcement of the names for the 1984 Homecoming Attendants. 22
