It gives students a chance to act crazy, be creative, have fun and show school spirit all at the same time. In keeping with tradition, the cheerleaders chose themes for each day and the student body responded wholeheartedly. There were also contests. It was no surprise when Mike Campbell won the cutest baby picture contest. There was change in the Homecoming night pep rally. The location of the bonfire was Fun switched from the gym parking lot to the clearing behind the school. Instead of boxes, a brush pile was used. Senior high students seem to prefer the area behind and to the ends of the buildings as well as the lunchroom itself. Junior high students like the area in front of the school and the lunchroom. While the senior high students prefer to sit and discuss important issues and events, students in the lower grades like to run and play. FHA assumed the Nursing Home as an on-going project by doing several small projects for them. They also sold gift items, sponsored a fashion show, and a rock-a-thon for March of Dimes. They ride a bus to the Conway Area Careers Center at Conway High School where they stay for two hours. While there, they are taught a trade which could possibly help prepare them for a future career. The classes offered to the PHS students are auto mechanics, building trades, electronics, ma- chine shop, refrigeration-air con- ditioning heating, and welding. Students who attend the center get to know students from other schools. Students from Greenbrier, Mayflower, St. Jo- seph, Conway, and Vilonia also attend the center. Improvement Water Fountain, Sidewalk, and Lights Added During the 1980-81 school year a needs assessment survey was taken by parents, faculty, students, and interested citizens to find out the most important needs of the Perryville School District. Work on the physical needs was started as improvements around the high school began during the summer and continued through the year. The front sidewalk was raised to prevent flooding, all of the restrooms were remodeled, two new water fountains were installed, a salad line was added in the cafeteria and new fluorescent lights were put in every classroom. A seven mill tax increase to construct a new library, gymnasium, two class- rooms, and a new locker area was approved by voters in March. Cindy Lamb, and Angela Barnes act like executives by propping their feet up. The Best Of Times The best of times? Was it really? There were many times that made us often wonder. The five of us in journalism II had the constant problem of never having enough pictures of the right things at the right time. Having to learn how to draw layouts, write copy, crop pictures, and use a camera also made things go a little slow at first for both journalism classes. But helping and learning from each other as the year went by made things go much smoother and helped develop a special closeness between all of us that worked on the book. We all had a lot of fun together planning the book, experimenting with the camera, seeing the pictures that were to be used before anyone else did, and laughing at the ones that couldn’t be used. Yes, it really was the best of times. We have tried to capture these times in words and pictures so that you will always remember them.
