FOREWORD office clock (Old Faithful) and the school's activity calendar. The former has helped to tick off the hours of the school day, and the latter has marked the major events of the sch- ool year. Therefore wc think it fitting to take them with us through the pages of this book, for they are as much a part of the event as the event itself 1 ■ Dear Readers, when it is time for lei- sure hours of reminiscing, we hope this fifth volume of the Mustang will bring pleasant mo- ments as you read of the happenings at P. H. S. during the school year of 1955-56. This school year has been an unusual one, mixed with both laughter and tears, filled with both work and play. ADMINISTRATION SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE Freedom to think was firmly fixed in the American Bill of Rights. It is basic to all other freedoms. Freedom of speech is vacuous unless there is something to say. Freedom of press is an empty privilege unless there is something to write. Free- dom of assembly is futile without intelligent discussion. American freedom of worship, freedom of enterprise, trial by jury-all the freedoms and rights guaranteed in our organic documents and secured by more than a century-and-a-half of tradition- would be on a precarious footing indeed if a system of thought-control were imposed upon those who must pass judgment upon whether these freedoms are jeopardized or abridged. These are uncertain times in America. Our ability to withstand the menace of com- munism may well depend upon how well we have prepared ourselves to make intelligent decisions in public affairs. PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Each time a yearbook is published, another group has reached the top round on the ladder. To graduate from high school is truly a great accomplishment. To the senior class I wish to congratulate you on your success and wish you the best of life's rewards. Mr. E. W. COOK, Superintendent Mr. LAMBERT WALLACE Principal BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Mr. J. H. Moore, PRESIDENT; Mr. G. M. Wallace, SECRETARY; Mr. J. A. Shelton; Mr. L. O. Lakey; Mr. L. D. Doughty. 5 MRS. HEBURN MOORE School Secretary
