The four members of our class with leading roles were: Larry Houck, Don Simmons, Pat Hoffmann and Barb Coy-serving as Presi- dent, V. President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Mrs. Braun, Miss Morgan and Mr. Collins were our facultylsponsors. We had a freshman picnic in October and a dance and party in March. ln May the curtain came down on Act One. Act Two of our career opened with a new group of students in the leading role. Don Simmons was elected president and Paul Schneider vice president, Mary Ann Garn secretary and Jim Treece treasurer. Miss Reuthinger and Mr. Strow were our directors. We sponsored a Thanksgiving Convocation, a splash party in November and a Valentine's Dance in February. We closed Act Two with a picnic. Act Three brought us close to being the upperclassmen and we elected Jack Harris presiderft, Barbara Westervelt vice president, Pat Hoffmann, sec- retary and Paul Schneider treasurer. We had a Sadie Hawkins dance, splash party, and a picnic in the spring. We were under the sponsorships of Miss Bendure, Miss Morgan, and Mr. Blayney. By the end of Act Three we had our beautiful class rings and had given the seniors a farewell convocation. F On our fourth and final act Larry Houck was chosen president with Jim Treece vice president, Elvira VanderVluct secretary and Joyce Meister as treasurer. We had 70 members in our supporting cast. Miss Munger and Mr. Wirick were our managers. Mistletoe Magic was the title of our Christmas Dance and we also had two picnics and a convocation. Looking over our supporting cast we find it very talented as we had varsity basketball, baseball, football and track stars. We also had cheerleaders and majorettes from our class and many seniors were in the school plays. We ended Act Four with caps and gowns, pictures, invitations, namecards and many thanks to Mr. Treece, Mr. Rinehart and our faculty members who made the final act a successful one. We take our bows on Act Four and the curtain falls. l I f Paula An ambitious girl who will never tire5 helping others is her desire. ShirI Quiet and shy, but she'll get by. Don Kaetzel, a Sopho- more, showed by his tackling and blocking ability as a good pros- pect for his Junior and Senior years for the Jackets. Phil Whit- ner, a Sophomore, showed the necessary fight for a good guard. Bud Emch, a Junior, made good by being voted as the most de- serving substitute by his team mates. Chuck -Kern, a Senior, was a good hard charger in press- ing opposing passers to earn All- Conference honors for the second straight year. 92 1951 TACKLES This quartet of fine tackles for the l95l Jackets showed the way to blocking and plugging up the holes in the line. Elmer Sabo, a Senior, made himself distinguish- able by his fine tackling ability which earned him honorable men- tion for All-Conference. Jack May, a Senior, a good blocker who made many of those good gains through the line possible. By this he received honorable mention on All-Conference. john Wooley, a Junior, shows good promise of being a fine tackle for l952. Paul Schneider, a Senior, proved to be the downfall for many opposing runners. ,WJ 1951 ENDS This quartet comprised the end positions for offensive and defensive to make a successful showing for the l95l season. Ron Simmons, a Sophomore, is a boy to watch as a real fine end in the future. Don Simmons, a Senior, made himself distinguished as a fine pass catcher which brought him All-Conference honors on the second team for the second year. Don Carter, a Junior, played both defensive end and halfback in fine style. Larry Houck, a Senior, who was a good end, gave his best when ever needed. mi S fSW5W . This year Coach John Heubner found himself with the problem of picking the Varsity since nine lettermen of last years team graduated. After some jug- gling around he came up with the combination of Harris, Smith, R. Simmons, Halbert and D. Simmons which played most of the time. The team found the season quite rough while winning four and losing eleven. The team ended in a three way tie for third place in the G.N.C. Dave l-luttord a Junior, filled in very well with his good backboard work. Eddie Odeneal a Senior, proved that basketball wasn't new to him by his fine team play. Coach Huebner With only four veterans returning from last year's team, Coach John Huebner is faced with the problem of building a new team. Eight lettermen graduated from last year's league leading team. WM? .l. W' 3 Senior Ed Odeneal-Outfielder Ed dressed Varsity all season last year but had little playing experience, Since Ed can hit very well it is pre- sumed that he will pull down the reg- ular centerfield berth this year. Senior Elmer Saba-Catcher This boy played behind last year's regular catch- er and showed he is ready to take over the starting catching job this year. Last season Elmer cut down many an op- ponent when they tried to steal. Senior Ron Sattler-Pitcher The only two year letter- man on the squad, Ron is expected to lead the team in bunting and pitching. Last season he hit well above 350. Ron is also a very versatile player, for this reason he can play every infield position equally well, Senior Jim Treece--Outfielder Jim has shown that he can pull down those long fly balls in a large area. For this reason Jim will make the other outfield- ers hustle for their jobs. Senior John Hutchek- Shortstop Johnny is a slick fielding shortstop, although he did not play baseball last year, he is expected to play a lot at baseball this spring. Senior Dan Davey-Outfielder Dan played very good baseball for the Reserves last year. His heavy hitting will make him a likely prospect for the outfield. Ula mu ' Noni its s as . . i S ll ' . -,..,. li... :2grj:,.s , f. ifi.'1'flI. K Senior Hugh Snyder-Outfielder Hughie won his letter last year on his ability to hit that ball. He probably possesses one of the strongest arms on the squad. For these reasons he is expected to take over the left field slot. . 2' afa - :. i NX... . -X ..... .. .. Www 9 1.12 viii. . 'Q i l Sophomore Bob Lyons-Second Baseman The second Sophomore to make the squad. Bobby has the experience and ability to start at the second base slot. He is known for his slick fielding and all around field leadership. Junior Dan -Haas-Shortstop Dan is an up and coming Junior who should make himself known for his strong arm, and good eye at the plate. He proved both of these qualities on the Reserve team last year. Junior Jerry Shiple-Catcher Jerry is being groomed for the catching spot after Elmer Sabo gradu- ates. Jerry was known last year for his long ball hitting. His scrappy de- termination will help win many a ball game this year. Junior Zip Huebner-Pitcher Zip has all the necessary requirements to become a good pitcher. He has quite a few pitching in- nings under his belt, since he pitched nearly every ball game for Re- serves last year. Zip will probably play some in- field too, because he has that knack of getting the ball away fast. Junior Jack Blakeman- Third Base Jack is probably the most improved ball player On the squad. His ClU'Ck fe' actions, which are essen- tial to a third baseman will make Jack hard to beat out at that position. He also is a very 9005 hitter. Sophomore Ron Simmons--First Baseman Because of Ron's size, it is hoped by the 'coaching staff that Ron will be the regular first sacker. When he connects everyone knows about it. In other words Ron has the prime essen- tial for a first baseman, that is, a long ball'hitter. M.. W? BACK ROW lL-RJ D. Kaetzel, B. Londeree, B. Williams, D. Beck, D. Williams, M. Davis, J. Adams, G.
