“Left to right: Back row, Roy Chapin, Dick Gonshorowski, Charles Boeder, Ross Gil- lam, Bob Stewart, Lester Massey, Adviser-Mel Millerg Middle row, Norman Quillin, Bob Rosenbalm, Larry Kahle, Rudy Gingerich, Raymond DeJong, John Dent, Marvin Rempel, Floyd Zunck, Larry Masseyg Front row, Dick Cooper, Eli Gingerich, Donnel Stapleton, Benny Rempel, Bob Ediger. 7. 7. ,-4. The FFA chapter officers for S3-Sh were: President-Donnel Stapleton, Vice President-Sam Stewart, Secretary-Benny Rempel, Treasurer- Eli Gingerich, Reporter- Dick Cooper, Sentinal- Bob Ediger, and adviser- Melvin Miller. The main activity, which occured this past year, started right after school'was out last spring with a fishing trip to Newport. About 15 boys and adviser, Melvin M ller, took part in the three day trip. They had several meetings during the sum er which were used in mak- ing preparations for the next major event, the county fair. Nine boys showed at the county fair in the various divisions of daing swine, sheep, and poultry. There were also several shop projects en- tered. The chapter also had a joint booth with the Central chapter, winning first prize, SSO. Donnel Stapleton, Charles Boeder, Sam Stewart, Bob Stewart, and John Barth showed animals at the state fair where they brought home a third place herdmanship banner. Donnel also showed a grand champion ewe. Charles was presented with a S100 purchase certificate from the Oregon Guernsey Cattle Club. In September Donnel Stapleton won the lower Willamette project im- provement contest on his sheep project. The annual FFA Parent and Son Banquet was held November 10. M s. Jonasson, FHA adviser, and'Harold Stapleton were made honorary members Larry Massey received ten dollars and Bob Stewart five dollars fromthe Safeway stores for outstanding freshmen supervised farm projects. Roy Chapin,with his speech on WCorncobs to Beefsteaks,' won second at district,first at sectional, and fifth in the state. Six members of the FFA and their adviser attended the convention at Corvallis. Bob Stewart served as speaker over the talent contesttthe convention. Donnel Stapleton won the talent contest with his marimba. Donnel Stapleton, Sam Stewart, and Benny Rampel were awarded State Farmer degrees. The FFA entertained the FHA with a skating party March 26. Refresh- ments were served at the school after the party. They also had a fish- ing trip in the spring after school was out.
