In February, 1950, thirtyfeight of us came from McNaugher to form the only 9B class in Perry. 9th Grade We started off our career in Perry under the guidance of Mr. Berry in Room 203. As usual, our first few days were spent tracking down elusive rooms and getting acquainted with the rules and regulations. By the time summer vacation rolled around, we were really in the swing of things. The following September Mr. Harris took over the management of 203. A member of our class became the Junior School president. Mziny of us joined Milroy, and we all got our 'first taste of rooting for our own foothall team. Page Eighteen 10th Grade This year we moved up to Room 215 where Miss Anderson took over our training. Our class was growing smaller in spite ofa few new additions. We thought we would never get all that home' work done, hut miracles do happen. We had our first experience with Mr. Irons' famed tests, hut somehow we ploddcd through them. A few of our talented girls were finally hreaking into the A Cappella Choir. Some of our boys went out for football, and made it! We were memhers of the Senior School now and really growing up! llth Grade It was during this, our junior year, that wc realized how time was flying. Class rings were ordered and finally arrived. The first members from our class were admitted into the National Honor Society. And to our surprise, we found that American Literature can be both interesting and full of fun. The announcement of Miss Anderson's resigf nation came as a surprise and left us wondering whether we would get a report teacher half so wonderful and understanding as she was. Never' thcless, we looked forward to our next and final year at Perry with great anticipation. 12th Grade At last we were seniors. All twenty-seven of us took over the Lyon's Den in Room 311. We shared our senior play, The Form Divine, with the class of june, 1973. Our prom, which was held at thc Schenley Hotel on June 1'.Z. 1973, was also shared with them. The semester changed. We elected our class officers. The Lyon's Den changed to Duncan's Dungeon. Seven of us were on the Cafeteria Com' mittee. The excitement of exchanging senior pie' tures came and went. The Christmas trees were put up and taken down. just nineteen school days were left. All too soon baccalaureate and the last day were upon us. With harely enough time to get a deep breath, it was commencement night. january 28. With mixed emotions we bade a last fond farewell to Perry . . . Q X R X CLASS QF JU E 1954 I-IISTCRY 7th Grade Our class began in 1948 when a small, but brave hand came from Chatham to Perry. Their goal was to struggle and strain to learn all they could to equip themselves to go out into the world six years later in 1954. 8th Grade By now our class was really a part of Perry. We were full of school spirit which made us cheer at sports events and support Perry in every way we knew how. 9th Grade Our freshmen class was increased by the country kids and students from McNziugher. At first they were as lost and confused as all new students are and, as a result, often wandered into the wrong room or spent hours looking for the famed elevator This year the president of the Junior School was elected from our class. Members of our class were making outstanding records in junior varsity Page Twenty-six sports, playing in the orchestra and hand, and taking important parts in the club activities for the Junior School. 10th Grade In our sophomore year we were transplanted into new home rooms which were to be ours for thc rest of our career at Perry. Although this was our first year in the Senior School, we were well represented in all sports and clubsg and we were really beginning to know what it meant to be a Perryite. 1 1th Grade Suddenly, we found ourselves juniors and right in the midst of all the activity. Menibers of our class were officers of clubs, and some were even setting school records in sports events. Most important and exciting of all was the day when we received our shining class rings. Some of us were accepted into the National Honor Society during this year, too. 12th Grade As seniors we had a great many new responf sibilities. We were helping to run our school: its dances, its sports events, its cafeteria, its news- paper, and all the things that go to make up a school. With all these things to keep us busy, it was midfterm before we realized it, and we found ourselves bidding goodfbye to the February grad' uating class. Time seemed to slip by unnoticed, Hardly had we gotten over the excitement of our senior pictures and the midfterm graduation when thoughts of the prom, baccalaureate, and our own graduation flooded our minds. Their nearness made us realize that soon we must leave behind our school days and use what we had learned in a new life. So we say, Thanks Perry, and may we truly use the knowledge you have given us, for service. This fact was hardly realized as we first attempted to fit ourselves into the role of junior high school students. Fortunately, all of our classmates returned after the nrst trip through the endless corridors. 8th Grade The sturdy eighth grade group from 110 was taking part in activities that year and helping to cheer Perry on to victory. One of our classmates, Anton Truhar, passed away. This incident cast a shadow over our second year in junior high. By this time the long trip toward becoming a senior was really begung at least, we were no longer the youngest kids in school. 9th Grade Everyone was counting the days until graduation. just think only SOO more! That year students from McNaugher enlarged our class. We began spending time at Milroy, which was now open to us. We were eager to get our hands on the controls of the Page Fifty-two school, We elected a president of the junf ior school. There were an abundance of new opportunities opened to us as we traveled through this year. 10th Grade By tenth grade we began to take part in Senior Council and other activities open to only members of the senior school. ln this memorable year biology class certainly presented new problems: And now we have a week long battery of tests. Then there were those long trips through the 'catacombs' to read up on Big Ben Frank' lin . That English course wasn't big enough for both of us .... Ben's still in tenth grade! Boys from our class went out for the athletic teams, and we were easing our way into all of the schools important activities. And then there was home work . . . mountains of itl 1 1th Grade ln our eleventh year our formerly one room class was divided between rooms 106 and 220. Now we moved in on the chemistry laboratory and discovered what valence is. Or did we? But we did manage to survive the smell of hydrogen sulphide. This turned out to be a terrific year. There was a dead' line to be met at every turn. Four boys and four girls in our class took active part in the junior Town Meetings. Three of our class' mates were elected to membership in the National Honor Society. We occupied pos' itions on the Yearbook Staff because of the change in the Yearbook setfup. Various un' quotable remarks were heard when we re- ceived our pictures. The 3D craze hit geometry class which changed from plane to solid. 12th Grade We anticipate our senior year with high hopes for a very exciting time. How will the football team do? Who will get into N.H.S.7 What will physics be like? Whom shall we elect as president of the school? What memories shall we have of our Prom? There is a lot to look forward to until our class history is really completed. Under the guidance of Mir. Mclfelvey, Mr. Berry. Mr. Zukovich, Mrs. Baker, Mr. Boord, Miss Matz. and Miss Gibson, they have entered into many school activities. They have learned of the tasks that are necessary to produce in- teresting publications under the direction of the seniors. A number of the juniors are officers in the various clubs throughout the school, 220 In this, their third year at Perry High School, the members of the junior class are preparing them' selves to take over the reins of numerous school functions. Next year in their hands will rest the responsibility of heading the school government, the service groups, the social events, and the school publications. We, the seniors, upon taking our leave, would like to wish this junior class success in all their endeavors for our Alma Mater. It introduced new features and tried to im' prove thc old ones, Mziny of the improve' ments were made possible because of the cofoperation of the whole school in making thc patron campaign a huge success. The staff was made up of members of the three graduating classes: February, 1954g june, 19545 and February, 1955. This new arrangement was made so that the mid' term graduates may have their yearbooks before they graduate. Among the changes in the book were the addition of more informal pictures, the substitution of photographic division pages in place of drawings, and the introduction of color.
