These are administrators, special services people, the board of education and its clerk, Mr. Frey. Mr. Frey is not only the clerk of our board, but a dedicated and highly esteemed member of our school community. He has spent his entire life in this area and has contributed greatly to its welfare and progress. His friendliness and concern have earned him the admiration of many. In 1943, Mr. Frey was elected to the Perry Local Board of Education, a position which he had until 1953 when he be- came clerk. At present he is a member of the Stark County Board of Education and holds the office of president. Because of his many years of loyalty and devotion to our school system, We are proud to dedicate the 1966 Clock to Mr. Elmer Frey. As the years go by, time leaves its mark on all things made by man and God. Age brings not only weakness, destruction, and senility, but also strength, beauty, and maturity. The story of the ages is endless. This year marks the tenth anniversary of Perry High School. Some of its members have weakened, but the school itself is stronger. We have avoided destruc- tion and developed beauty, shunned senility and ac- quired maturity. To the past ten years and the unknown future, the 1966 Clock gives tribute. 1 XL ., f . l fl N it I 1 fx' t Ill., yy V if rfyfpf ,w r ,M ll H , 6 rc' l nt Wi if lf Wwifffl want iafafw Qu ai if .32 it 1, 1 XL il jxw 1, K ,.,, i N , - w . ,'xJQ:N4 ' f My , W-fha, . Some have come back and are now teaching with their former instructors. Still l l others have remained through the years, contributing their services to an ever growing and expanding school system. These teachers are celebrating their tenth anniversary at Perry Veronica Nist, Lou Clauss, and Kathryn Bethune joined the Several of our graduates went on to college then returned to teach special services staff in 1956. in the Perry School district. nunnm-.................,... h...,, Our school, though permanently established, has become an ever-expanding place of change and challenge. Knowledge Is Attained Within These Walls As Perry grew, new strides were made toward developing a sound curriculum that would meet the needs of all youth. Speech classes were in- stituted to allow students to develop good speak- ing habits. It was also recognized that the media of audio-visual materials would broaden educa- tional opportunities. Bruce Robinson selects audio-visual materials. Expression is a special concern of the debate class Six Learning facilities are provided for all youth of the com- munity. , M 'sw' wx- W' W' Sz .M f- , 'K fi it ' .A If W, if ff ,ga Q W Ak ' s V K -kv ' xv Q ,, , 1' i jffx . f sw, r J: x f' J 9995 L'- t. We K' 4,I, U f 2 vi ,p gtg? an I? X The addition of rooms to our building, more equipment for the business department and a new Canton Branch Library indicated a growing community. The growth of our school involved not only physical changes but the growth of a new tradition. Students, in their usual caps and gowns, were led by an academic procession of faculty members, adding to the impressiveness of the graduating of the largest class in Perry's ten year history. We also welcomed a foreign exchange student into our student body, Michiko Kitamura, a very congenial girl from Kobe, Japan. The new Canton Branch Library offers facilities for both students and residents of the community. Gridders Have Second Best Season The Panther eleven closed the 1966 grid year with an overall record of six wins and four losses, the second best in Perry history. Tom Winkhart came to Perry from Sandy Valley to take over as head coach. Helping Winkhart were assistants Bill Roland, backs, Ray Fortner, ends and tackles, and joe Demaree, guards and centers. After beating Timken in the home opener, and taking drubbings from North Canton and Canton South, the Panthers began to move. Three consecutive victories over Sandy Valley, Fairless, and Lehman gave the gridders a 4-2 record, and second place in the Federal League. But as suddenly as the Panthers had caught fire, they were stopped cold. Glenwood and Jackson handed the pig- skinners humiliating shutouts to give them a 4-4 record and dropped Perry into a fourth place tie with Marlington in the league. Perry won its final two games by stomping Riverview and nipping Marlington in the season finale, to get third place in the Federal League. Terry Irwin, senior quarterback and tri-captain, received the Most Valuable Player Award at the annual Booster Club football banquet. Also winning awards were Bob Harriman, junior fullback, best offensive back, senior end Dave Fisher, best offensive lineman, senior Roger Archibald, best defensive back, senior end junior Parker, best defensive lineman.
