To the victor belongs the spoils-and Stan Maciag was the victor of a heated senior class officers campaign and election as he be- came Perry's first senior class president. April I8, I9 Perry's' first operetta, "Miss Cherry Blossom" was presented by the A Cappella Choir. 1958-1959 Continued DECEMBER Dec 9 Panthers copped opening cage win 53-48, over Orville. Three hundred and thirty-four students swelled the newly- formed Perry Booster Club. Dec 17 The concert band and the A Cappella Choir combined to present their annual Christmas concert. Dec 20 The gym inherited a 9-foot papier-mache snowman, made by the GAA, for the "December Dream." JANUARY Jan 6-15 A two-week exam schedule commences, to the dismay of not a few. Jan 22 Quill and Scroll tapped 21 charter members in a candle-light induction service conducted by the Stagelighters, and club advisor, Mr. Pat F. Mattachione. Jan 24 "View" sponsored the second annual Bermuda Sock Hop, with the-Flat Tops furnishing the music. Jan 28 Yearbook init- iated the photogenic contest for yearbook King and Queen. The 8 fjnalist pictures were sent to "Big" Wilson for the selec- tion of the royalty. FEBRUARY Feb Mr. Campbell, chemistry teacher, organized Saturday Chemistry classes for extracurricular chemistry work. Feb 3 The Perry Panthers captured the coveted Stark County Class AA basketball league championship by rolling over the Sandy Valley Cardinals, 69-50. Feb 4 School spirit in the form of yells and cheers vibrated the school auditorium in a spon- taneous pep rally, celebrating the winning of the AA league championship. Feb 6 The Panthers close their basketball season with an 11-8 record. The sophomores hired KYW disc iockey, Dick Reynolds, to spin records at the annual Valentine dance, "The Heart Beat." MARCH March 5, 6 Juniors presented their class play, "Our Miss Brooks," under the direction of Miss Smith. March 13 The first basketball queen, Miss JoAnn Uhose, is crowned at the "Rhapsody in Blue," a dance held in honor of her and her court by the National Honor Society. March 17, 18 The Perry High School auditorium was filled with laughter and ioy once again as the third annual minstrel came to the township, with its cut-ups, capers, and iokes. APRIL April 4 A one-act play, "Our Town," was presented by the Stagelighters. April 23, 24 The annual operetta, this year entitled "Campus Daze," added to the spring festivities. MAY May 7 The iuniors gave the seniors their 2nd prom, a formal dance held in the gym. May 24 The seniors attended bacca- laureate, and took the first step in becoming alumni. May 26 Graduation marked the most important step forward to the graduating seniors, and indicated the achievement of the long-awaited ultimate goal, which was set the first day Perry's doors opened on that September morning in 1956.
