J-listvry 1956-1957 SEPTEMBER Sept 6 Perry opened its doors to 866 eager l?J students. OCTOBER captured their first football win, downing 13. Oct 25 the first issue of the school paper, View," came out. NOVEMBER 1 No more sack lunches! The cafeteria officially began operations. Students elected the 1956-1957 class officers. Panthers gridders ended the season with a 2-6 record. Nov 13-14 Supt. C. M. Watson directed the first of Perry's musical minstrels, the profits were given to the Athletic Association. Nov 19 Parents attended open house, attended 8 minute jj s. Nov 21 "View" sponsored the "Subscriber's Bounce" om 7:30 to 10:30 in Genoa's gym. DECEMBER Dec 1 56-44 win over Navarre began a 15 game basketball season. Massillon Amvets presented the new school with its first flag and flagpole. Dec 10 Board of Education approved construction bids for the completion of the school. Dec 14 "Silver Bells" pealed at Genoa for students who attended the Christmas dance. JANUARY Jan 25 Students registered during homeroom period and selected courses for the next school year. Jan 30 Supt. Charles M. Watson died of a heart ailment. Jan 31 Sixty-three students made Perry's' first honor roll, 803 others explained to mom "why" they didn't make it. FEBRUARY Feb. 11 The Board of Education memorialized Supt. Watson by naming a grade school after him. Feb 14 "Sweethearts Swing" at sophomore-sponsored Valentine dance. Feb 17 Perry ended its cage season with an overtime victory over Canton South 48-43. Season record was 10-6. Feb 18 The 7th graders attended full day sessions for the first time. MARCH March 11 The 8th grade won two trophies. The cheerleaders captured the sectional cheerleading trophy, the cagers earned the district consolation trophy. March 14 The Perry High Key Club was organized, linked with Kiwanis International. March 28 The Genoa Community Guild accepted student-suggested name of "Perry Heights"' for renaming of Genoa. APRIL April 1 Faculty iudges select 1957-1958 cheerleaders. April 6 Thirty-nine biology students spent the day in Pittsburgh. 155

To the victor belongs the spoils-and Stan Maciag was the victor of a heated senior class officers campaign and election as he be- came Perry's first senior class president. April I8, I9 Perry's' first operetta, "Miss Cherry Blossom" was presented by the A Cappella Choir.
