Harvey Tucker, Assistant Principal Adm1nistratien Sets Leadership Example It was the responsibility of every high school to face the problems of the community and to grow to its fullest educational capacity at the same time. The principal of Peoria High School, Mr. Harry Whitaker, enforced Central's rules firmly yet was admired for his understanding and his Willingness to confer with students and parents. His relaxed attitude and his presence at school functions familiarized him with stu- dents. Mr. Whitaker also gave col- lege and job recommendations to students. Mr. Harvey Tucker, assistant prin- cipal, could often be found quietly observing a class discussion from the back of the classroom. His major job of planning the schedules of all teachers and classes was part of this interest in the process of learning. Mr. Tucker Was also in charge of eligibility sheets for cheerleaders and boys participating in sports. The confident attitudes of Mr. Whitaker and Mr. Tucker set strong examples for the student body. Counselors Guide and Prepare Students The job of counseling over two thousand Peoria High students Was shared among six people. This year the classes were divided alpha- betically, and students from all four classes were assigned to each coun- selor. Each managed a specific area of the counseling program, such as scholarship and college information, testing, vocational guidance, and grade research. All of the counselors were available to students and par- ents during school hours to discuss personal problems and schedule changes. Counselors also visited col- lege campuses and met with former students to receive criticisms and new ideas on preparing students for college lite.
