H Division HMI Woodcock HM3 Aco HM3 Netzer The corpsmen of USS PENSACOLA dealt with a tremendous amount of chal- lenges during the cruise. In fact, times were so tough that the ship went through three doctors in just six months! The first Doc, LCDR Bickel, made the strongest showing. He survived the busy routine of daily water testing, sick call, dental appointments, physical exams, incredible numbers of audiograms and heat stress casualties. But Augusta Bay, Sicily proved to be too much, over two thirds of the ship's crew and marines were deathly ill with viral gastroenteritis QAKA the runs. J So Doc Bickel left us when the ship arrived in Haifa, and we were joined by Doc 942, CAPT Prentice. He was able to bear all the hearing patients, the constant cleaning, and the never ending medical training. He was even spotted on a working party! But a liberty incident in Corfu, Greece sent him on the first flight out for the safety Of his hospital. Finally, Doc H3, LCDR Hurst, came aboard and rode uS to the bitter end. He championed the routine and the bizarre and he was Still relatively sane when we returned to the Creek! Luckily for the crew, PENSACOLA's corpsmen CHU rise to any challenge. Lucki1Y for the corpsmen, we received three extremely talented doctors during the deployment.
