Assault division was established on board PENSACOLA as an integral part of Deck Department. Its sole purpose is to directly support the ship's primary mission -- to take the role as Primary or Secondary Control Ship in support of an amphibious assault. Composed of Enginemen, Machinist's Mates, Electricians, and Boatswain's Mates, this highly trained band of technicians operate, maintain and repair all assault related equipment. MARG 2-93 proved to be the division's first full sea trial, and Assault Division rose to the challenge. The standard of excellence set by Assault Di- vision allowed PENSACOLA to rise to her amphibious obligations throughout the Mediterranean.
