- ang Auxiliaries Division, or A-Gangj, has their hands in almost every area of the ship at one time or another. What happens when the pit drops the load and power carmot be restored imme- diately? A-gang answers the call, starting the ship's emergency diesel generators. Presto! The lights ret1n'n. Technical experts maintain air con- ditioning and refrigeration units through- out the ship Cwhich was especially nice in the Med when temperatures exceeded 100 degreeslj By maintaining the ship's steering units and ballast system, hydraulic special- ists make the ship go left and right, up and down through the water. Also, We'd never be able to pull up the hook without A-Gang, the anchor windlass is also hydraulic. We need fuel! A-gang responds immediately to needy helos, assault craft, and our own small boats. Press on, gentlemen! Just plug in your equipment or dial the number you want, right? Wrong!! Behind the scenes are miles of cables, junction boxes, fuses, cir- cuits, and most importantly, the EMS and IC-men of Electrical Division. E Division successfully completed a myriad of ERATS, ETG visits, and a tough OPPE. Additionally, E-Division continued to provide vital services to PENSACOLA's crew and embarked troops, including electrical tool issue, nightly movies, emergent repairs to motors and IC circuits, phone service to the U.S., and, of course, the rigging of the all-im- portant friendship lights. Throughout the deployment, the EMS and IC-men meticulously ensured PENSACOLA was ready to fulfill all op- erational commitments. So, the next time you flick on the lights or use the ol' J-dial telephone, give a silent word of thanks to the sailors of Electrical Division.
