'- Q ei l y e..f:f-Q, l 1 D eptunus Rex Memo . L Hear ye loyal denizens of the deep. Gather all ye unto the royal and secretive cause of initiating all Q unworthy scum landlubbers, whale dung, egg suckers, magpies, riffraff, worthless rabble and insignificant 3 low-life hereafter known as Polliwogs , Few times are afforded for the elite denizens of the main to have opportunity to carry out this August and Hallowed purpose, to this end, such venerable persons l hereafter known as HSHELLBACKSH are herewith directed to conduct an initiation of said Polliwogs, to E determine worthiness, impart servitude to Neptunus Rex, Ruler of the Deep, and consecrate said sacred servitude. Whereas the above described Polliwogs may presently be unworthy and unfit to abide in the Royal ' Order fand in fact presently seem hopelessly inept and moronic in the ways of the Deepj, it is the sworn purpose, nay, sacred duty for Loyal Shellbacks to prepare all who dare sail across the hemispheres, to E conduct a test to determine the mettle and seal the fate of Polliwogs aspiring to the Royal Order, and, if worthy of acceptance, to declare such fact to all other omnipotent personages known as SHELLBACKS. E NEPTUNUS REX advises that the spirit of the crossing the line ceremony is one of adventure and l enjoyment. Royal Shellbacks are aware of the hazards and hardships of such a ceremony and since he has also observed their singular enthusiasm knows that their efforts are directed in good taste, cama- t raderie and adventure. Polliwogs are urged to join in what is a life time memory, membership in an elite g club with bonds in other Navies and as time honored as any tradition of the sea. !
