W 2 T I AND ER COMMANDING OFFICER T.X?:1ISDCHER, JR. U55 PENSACOLA UNITED STATES NAVY ILSD'-339 Commander Theodore A. Fischer, Jr. is a native of Wichita, Kansas and graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned an Ensign on 1 June, 1956. During his initial sea tours, Commander Fischer served as Assistant Navigator on the USS YORKTOWN ICVA-101, First Lieutenant and Navigator on the USS COMSTOCK ILSD-191, and Engineering Officer of the USS PERKINS IDDR-8771. He received his qualyication for Command of Destroyers while aboard PERKINS. In February, 1962, Commander Fischer attended the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CalU'ornia and graduated in June, 1964 with a degree in Operations Research. He then took command of the USS JEROME COUNTY ILST-8482 and participated in the first LST deployments to the Republic of South Vietnam in 1965. He left this assignment in July, 1966 while operating in RVN and served with the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as Project Officer and Analyst for the Special Assistant for Strategic Mobility. A After departing Washington, D.C. in January, 1969, Commander Fischer proceeded to Guam, Mariana Islands, where he assumed Command of Landing Ship Squadron THREE. He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 February, 1970 while in this assignment. In December, 1970, Commander Fischer decommissioned his Squadron and disestablished his Staff and reported for duty as a student at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon completion of the course of instruction, he served as Navy Aide to the 24th and 25th Commandants of the Marine Corps through August, 1973. Commander Fischer assumed command of the USS PENSACOLA in Souda Bay, Crete on 16 October, 1973, during the Mid-East Crisis. He departs with orders to the Office of Program Appraisal for the Secretary of the Navy. ' Commander Fischer was married 16 June, 1956 to the former Charlotte Glee Jones of Conway Springs, Kansas. Their son, Tracey Alan, is in the NROTC program at Purdue University, and their daughter, Tamara Glee is a high school junior. The family residence is located in Vienna, Virginia.
