Former llfficer Laptaln Henry F. Captain Henry F, MUNNIKHUYSEN became the first Commanding Officer of the New Dock Landing Ship USS PENSACOLA KLSD-385 in late 1970. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946 and was ordered to the commissioning crew of USS VALLEY FORGE KCV-455. Following a tour aboard the Destroyer Tender GRAND CANYON in 1949 and 1950, he became Aide and Flag Lieutenantqto COM- MANDER SERVICE FORCE SIXTH FLEET. Before going to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in 1952, he served aboard the USS HENLEY fDD-7625, his first destroyer. From Washington, he served aboard USS JoHN s. MoCA1N CDL-35 and Uss COURTNEY lDE-10211. Following a shore tour at the Boston Group, Atlantic Reserve Fleet, Captain MUNNIKHUYSEN received his first Amphibious Force experience' as Commanding Officer of USS TERREBONNE PARISH KLST-11565, during 1960 and 1961. He attended the 31st Class at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, and was assigned as a NATO Exercise Planner on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, Eastern Atlantic Area, in Northwood, England, in 1962. Next came duty in USS MITSCHER KDL-23 as Commanding Officer and as Executive Officer aboard USS NEW- PORT NEWS KCA-1485, after which he became a Faculty Advisor and the College Secretary at the Armed Forces Staff College. Captain MUNNIKHUYSEN returned to Europe in 1968 to be Chief Navy Section, Military Assistance Advisory Group, Belgium-Luxembourg in Brussels. Captain MUNNIKHUYSEN has been awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and has earned the following campaign and service medals: 'American Campaign, World War II Victory, Navy Occupation Service, China Service, and National Defense Service. ommanding Munnikhuysen
