CLASS PROPHECY The year is 1982, Diane Knotts and I, Connie Paxson, decided upon a vacation from our jobs as executive secretaries for the Flinging Fabian Enterprises and the Ricky Nelson Studios in Hollywood. Before the trip, we purchased a new, bright red Stingray with the atomic engine designed by that brilliant engineer from M.I.T., Roy Taylor. We arrived in our former hometown of Pennville, Indiana, late on a rainy evening. We almost drove through without recognizing the town as it had changed so much. New fac- tories and business enterprises had sprung up. On one side of the street was Chris Johnston ' s Delicatessen and Speciality Shop. Further down the street we discovered Huffman ' s Hide- away, an exotic nightclub, starring the famous beatnik poet, Charles Hartman. When we went in, he was reading his latest poem, Ode to a Grecian Pig, and sipping espresso coffee. On our way to the Airdrome, we stopped at Pearson ' s service station to purchase isotope fuel for our automobile. The interurban rocket we were going to meet landed; where-upon, the pilot, Captain Norris, came over to speak with us. Afterwards we visited the new super-strength glass school to see four of our former class- mates. We visited the iron-handed principal. David Watts, and the stern English teacher, Pat Shura. Mighty Jim DeHoff, the successful coach, was there as was the art director, Dan McNeil. We learned that one of our classmates had seen service in Japan and had married a Japanese girl. Ronnie Claghorn and his wife live in Tokyo with their eight children. We also discovered that Allen Shuttleworth and Tom Miller owned an enormous ranch in Texas and that they had found oil. After leaving the school, we went to the Chic Beauty Salon, owned and operated by Susie Wappes. While we waited, Kay Stultz and her daughter entered. Kay said that she had married Harvey Dehoff, and that he was baby-sitting with their two other children. Picking up the paper, I saw a picture of Dean Ireland. He had designed the automobile of the year, an anti-gravity car, which was guaranteed to surpass thirteen hundred miles per hour. No more fuel wonies now ! Looking for some entertainment, we went to the Venus Video Viewer to see the latest hit, Martian Mash , co-starring Dale Hoover and Clayton Mink. The viewer was sold out so we went to the corner snack bar and there we met a professional wrestler, Larry Welch. There was a record department and we bought all twenty of Gelana Sell ' s gold records. Taking a drive the next morning, we passed a 250 acre hydroponic tomato farm. On the farm were a mushroom style home and a solar barn, on which was painted the name, Larry Duncan Sons. In the afternoon, we went to the Penn Heights Realty Co. Barb Decker, owner, showed us a prospective summer resort area. John Horn, prominent lawyer, handled the transaction for us. Later we went to see Tom Rowles, famed architect, about building a revolving space needle home for Fabian and Ricky. Late that evening we drove out of Pennville in a reminiscent mood. We were back at our desk the next morning thanks to the new Super-Sky-Freeway designed by Keith Wall.
