SUDDE LY IT'S MAY Once upon a time to the tune of Narcissus , Eugene and Karen were crowned King and Queen of the May. They reigned over the royal court of Penn High School. Under the direction of Mrs. Larson, the Senior girls prepared a program to present before the court. A thunderstorm broke prior to the ceremonies adding to the nervous- ness of everyone. As bedlam raged in the locker rooms, a perfect fwell, al- mostj show was enacted in the gym. Spinning wheels turned while flags furled. A tear came to the eye and a lump to the throat as we watched Karen and Eugene climb the steps for the final time. Suddenly, It's Mayu is nowjust a fond memory. GO LIGHT D ROSES Along about April you hear whispering in the halls. Do you really think he'll ask me? Will she go with me'?,' Along about May it changes to Should I have French or Grecian curls? or Should I get a ruflled shirt? You know the prom is approaching. For us, the Juniors, the prom began in September with the man- ning of the refreshment stand. Under the direction of Mr. Eaton we scrubbed pans and spilled pop. During the magazine campaign we pulled hair while counting pennies, fought to work the adding machines, and jumped when Mr. Eaton barked. During club meet- ing we hassled over such major decisions as whether to have corn or peas on the menu. After weeks of waiting, May 22 finally came. It was the kind of day made for washing the car or baking your hair. After the smiling line-ups be- fore parents, relatives, and as- sorted strangers, we finally arrived at the Adamis House. What a shock to find even teachers danc- ing to the music by the Excep- tions. Dr. Pryce Jenkins hypno- tized some of our friends. 'The antics he put them through! And then John Zagorce teamed with Shorts Davis for a dance routine. We laughed until our curls fell out. All too soon 5:00 dawned. We took one quick glance over our shoulders and then hurried into the early morning light.
