B. Kochanov J. Roskey M. Drury N. Broker M. Reeger S, Galetti D. Degullroy LV. CHEERLE DE We got an early start this year since tryouts were held the same time as the Varsity's. The whole summer lay aheadg giving us ample time to prepare for so we thoughth. Aside from play- ing l, 2, 3 everybody olT my apple tree', and arguing constantly, this time was put to good use. COLOR G ARD ROW l: V. Cook-head. ROW 2: M. Raneri, S. Costellic. ROW 3: L. Huffman, D. Geiger, J. Senchur, J. Slack A new slant on the color guard, a new role. It required a lot of practiceAeven in the rain and mud, but some how, we made it. Marching in the midsts of the band was hard since our timing was more important than when we just lead the band on the held and then stood on the side during the complete show. As we added twirling the guns to our routine, we found there was something about marching forward in step, twirling the gun in time to Hawaii-Five-O and not knocking the Hag out of the next color guard's hand. But then, we had new flag poles this year which were easier to control than the big clunky wooden ones we used to use. The height of the season was the Hempfield Area Band Festival. The timing was so close we couldn't waste a sec- ond. And we weren't sure ofthe ending. There were a thousand reasons to be nervous. It worked out. 113
