DICKINSON GAME Lion fumbles in the opening quarter gave her an early four- touchdown advantage which the improved second-half play- ing of the Nittany eleven was unable to overcome, and her ultimate 4-1 to 6 victory was never in doubt. The Lions played their best home game of the season against Colgate. The highly-touted Maroon offense inet stub- born resistance in the first period, the quarter ending with the Lions holding a 7 to 6 lead gained by Moo-nves' pass to Brewster and off-tackle run over the goal line and Captain Lasich's successful try for point. ln the end, however, the Hamilton eleven's strong reserve power enabled them to march down the field for touchdowns in every quarter and a 32 to 7 victory. Against the heavy Leopards, the Lions began to show the strain of the diiiicult succession of games they had gone through and fell easy prey to the Maroon passing attack by a 33 to 0 score. Magnificent defensive play by the line in the first half staved oif the Marquis scores, but the tired Lions weakened in the second quarter to permit two Lafayette touch- P' 5,-Iv---q we 3 3 I v v Q,-,'E51j:'w 2-.' LA vu E Q T ' WAYNESBURG GAME Stadium had witnessed splendid defensive rallies on the part of the Lion forward wall, which held the Temple offensive from touchdowns several times. One of these courageous stands came when the heavy Temple eleven had but inches to go for a touchdown. Twenty thousand Orange fans sat in Archbold Stadium, October 24, and Watched their undefeated Syracuse eleven desperately trying to hold the 7 to 0 lead it had taken in a first-quarter drive, outplayed and outfought by a savage Lion attack which fell short of scoring three times only by the narrowest of margins, and ended the exciting game with a first down on the Orange five-yard line. The game goes in the record books as Syracuse's first vic- tory over Penn State since 1926, but those who saw it will never forget Phil Moonves' ninety-yard return of tl1e second- half'-kick-off. Captain l..asich's line-ripping plunges, or the vicious tackling of Stempeck and lVlclVlillen. ,Pittsburgh brought her Eastern championship football teani' to New Beaver Field for the first time since 1902 to aid in the annual celebration of Alumni Homecoming Day. The Lions returned to the Mountaineer Stadium in the last regularly-scheduled game of the season and were successful in holding a burly West Virginia team to a 6 to 0 score for three quarters of a bitterly-fought game. Fresh replacements for the Mountaineers in the last quarter were responsible for an aerial attack which brought two more touchdowns, how- ever, and the Nealemen annexed a 19 to O victory. Displaying a varied and deadly offense and a defense which held the Brown and White to five yards of net gain in the first half, the Lions overwhelmed Lehigh by a 31 to 0 score in a post-season charity game for the unemplo-yment fund at Franklin Field, Philadelphia. So concerted was the Nittany attack that the team ran up a total of twenty-two first downs to four for their opponents. , Captain .ludy Lasich paid a fitting farewell to college football with a performance brilliant enough to have metro- politan sports writers label him "one of the greatest backs seen on Franklin Field this year."
