NAAAAAALSAA ,,,.... . ,,,YY N.-- ,YYYYYYYY YYY----- - - Y---H CLASS PROPHECY Probably the most exciting event of my life was spent on that glorious afternoon of June 10th, 1951, when I was granted a short vacation and returned to the scenes of my childhood+the corner of Pennsylvania and Robinson Avenues, Pen Argyl. After an absence of nearly ten years 1 was amazed with the many changes and improvements, but my attention was almost immediately attracted to the large neon sign inviting my inspection of the new SPACE-O-GRAPH-an inven- tion by Lewis Miller, an old classmate. This apparatus would promptly show a picture revealing the present activity and location -of anyone, simply by inserting a coin and speaking the person's name into the mouthpiece. This marvel, as you have undoubtedly suspected, was located in the pros- perous recreation establishment owned and operated by Allen Biechy and Bill Powell. A picture of our 1941 graduating class gave me a startling idea. 1 quickly pulled the picture off the wall, supplied myself with nickels, milled my way through the large crowd, and started furiously inserting money into the machine, calling off names of my classmates as I turned the handle. Joe Semolenyak was the first name mentioned, and it was a real satifaction to see him located in the Hertz-og Building, operating a first-class photography shop, ably assisted by Gordon Smale and Josephine DeNardo, who were endeav- oring to take an attractive picture of Arlene Barber, the new model. Next I noticed Joe Bosco busily engaged in preparing the evening edition of the Pen Argyl Index, with Robert Depp already seated in the truck ready for delivery. In a quiet, remote room 1 could see Donald Johnson preparing the latest drawings for the Comic Section. By again turning the handle of the machine I was transferred to the interior of a large modern hospital, under the capable management of Dr. Arthur Roberts. Chief of Staff. A quick glance revealed his secretary to be Lois Parsons. It was gratifying to see so many familiar faces, such as Betty Jackson, Velma Bowers, Madge Farleigh, Ella Fuge, Laura Eedon, Pauline Hendershot, Marilyn LaBar. and Joyce Lynn, acting in the capacity of qualified nurses. The chief dietitian of this modern hospital was Marie Lesh, and Harriet Ciodshalk was the labora- tory technician. My heart nearly dropped when I noticed that Wayne Avery was a patient, but I quickly learned it was nothing serious, He had simply taken another fall from one of his stands at Weona Park. 1 was particularly amused with the next scene because it acquainted me with two old chums in a hot argument. There was Lester Schlegel with a uni- form and a sheriff's badge attempting to arrest Johnny Miller. Schlegel alleged that the fish just taken from the Delabole Dam were entirely too small. The next scene shifted to a popular summer resort where everyone was having a good time. There I saw Bettie Ace, Bud Davis, Esther Werner, and Floyd Liero dancing to the delightful, but corny music of Connie Martin and his Alley Cats. Featured in the band was Dante DeBerardinis with his imper- sonation of Ziggie Elman, and none other than those songbirds Jane Darrohn, Catherine Sandt, and Elaine Toth. Believe it or not, on the veranda stood that social figure, Dot Allen, talking with the prominent movie stars, Mary Jane TWENTY'SlX U MOIRS 1941 MNNNNNNNAANNAN,V,7,lLN A6lA6AALNlw1sA!sl3!sAls!V- 'vvvsli 1 MIVMNVVANMNNNNVJNNNNAANVVWNVNAXQWXI
