For this occasion is planned for the a. m. a business meeting, of which Miss Harrison, our Commercial teacher, will read the minutes of the last meeting and record those of this meeting: and for the p, m. the teachers have planned a program for the benefit of the public. Since our su- perintendent, Mr. Thompson, and Historv teacher, Mr. Palmer, happen to be in charge we see many Pembervillians. Won't you join us? Mr. Thompson: Good afternoon, folks. We the teachers of Wood County sincerely wish you a. hearty welcome to the Teachers Re- view, I know you are all anxious to see this program so sit back, relax, and on with the program! Mr. Announcer- -- Announcer: As our characters come on the stage, I will introduce them. Our first group are those from Pemberville. At this point a tall, well groomed lady comes on the stage. She has 'a white jacket with many little pockets in it over her dress. In these pockets is a tape measure, scissors, marking czhalk, and packs of needles. Yes. this is the Home Economics teacher, Mrs, Baker. Sihe is fitting a. pattern on Mrs. Russell, the Mathemat- ics instructor, well liked by everyone. Mrs. Rus- sell is in charge of all high school Math and is the Sophomore sponsor. They seem to be dis- cussing a book they are reading, when who should appear but Mrs. Cornell, who is inter- ested in all types of Literature. She is the High School English teacher and also is the senior sponsor, She has read the book and is explaining the mysterious plot of the story when a jolly. little, man comes skipping on the stage witih a violin case in one hand and many workbooks in the other. It is our Music teacher, Mr. Kings- lzury. He is teaching 8th English, Public Speaking, and all Music. At this time, every- thing disappears and out of a cloud of smoke comes Mr. Heckman, who is instructing thc Science class's and also is the Freshman spon- sor, He is discussing the atomic bomb with Mr. Thompson, thc American Governiment teacher, and Mr. Palmer, wfho is the 7th spotisar, En- g'ish tewcher, and History teacher, as well 'as the boys Jr. High Plhys. Ed. coach. Mr, Palmer changes tihe subject to the basketball games which his Jr. High team have played when Mr, Madaras, our high school coach, appears. Mr. Madaras is also the instructor of Manual Train- ing and Mechanical Drawing for the 'high school boys. A brief intermission is observed. Mr, Announcer: The stage is now being trans- formed into an elementary atmosphere.. As the curtain is pulled an alert little lady is printing first grade spelling words on the blackboard. Need we say, this is Mrs, Bai- ley, who has started many youngsters off with an open mind and eager to learn more. A few feet to the rigiht of Mrs. Bailey's blackboard is a lady tacking paper figures on a. bulletin board. She is amid a large group of gay little second graders. It is Mrs. Bruning, The scene changes and now appear three lines of enthusiastic children with their instructors. What is it: a spelling bee? No, it seems they are having a multiplication quiz. Miss Fahle, Mrs. Rhoades, and Miss Gockerman, tlhe fifth, fourth and third grade teachers are conducting this quiz. Evidently the fifth grade pupils have won the quiz because they are filing into the sixth grade classroom where their arrival is awaited by Miss Bmning and anxious students And now Uhe fallen curtain engulfs another year of understanding, THE PEMBERVILLE ELEVATOR ASS'N Your own co-operative Everything in Farm Supplies and Farmers Service FARM 8: HOME HARDWARE llm... 1 . Under the able guidance of Mr. Heckman we started our first year in high school. Our class welcomed five new students: Martha Ernsthausen, Tom Bockbrader, Lloyd Peters, and Pauline Davidson from New Rochester, and Miriam Hecker from Cleveland. A class party was held in the school cafe- teria in September. We also had a Hallowe'e.1 party in I-Iartrnan's barn. The class had a lot of fun at both parties. During the year we elected the following as class officers: President-Daniel Sander Vice President - Dorothy Samson Secretary - Heber Howard Treasurer - Scott McCreary We started our Sophomore Class with thirty-two students. We were very sorry to lose five members of our class, but were very glad to gain two new members in January. They were Betty and Bonnie Musser. A' We had Mrs. Russell to guide us through our school year. We all missed Mrs. Russell wlhen she was ill during the winter. At that time we had Mrs. Rainy and Mrs. Shultz to take Mrs. Russel1's place. Tihe big event of this year was the pick- ing of our class rings, and the hayride which followed. One of the big events of this year was our Junior Play, Wanted, A Hero, given No- vember seventh, under the guidance of Mrs. Cor- nell and Mrs. Russell. We had the privilege of serving two ban- duets during tlhe year to make money for our class trip that we are planning to take at com- mencement time. VVe again were proud to have some of our boys on the basketball and baseball teams. We were also very proud of Jewell Lawson, Delores Hagemeyer and Dorothy Samson, who were cheerleaders. The biggest event of the year was the Junior-Senior Prom. After much planning and a lot of work, evervthing came out beautifully. The Huber Brothers orchestra played all the music needed for everyone to have an enjoyablr time. The following were elected as class cers: J O Y C E B A L L A R. Ohio Phone 1512 44 P 0 fs, I. J ANNUAL SPORTS BASEBALL Friday, September 17, at Olney, we played our first baseball game of the season. Our lead- off man, Louie Hiser, smashed out a, triple the first thing, and from then on first one team and then another held the lead, Finally in the clos- ing minutes of the game Lady Luck tipped the scale slightly in Olney's favor, and with the final out the score stood 6 to 5, Olney's favor. September 24, we played Webster on their hunting grounds and came off without our scalps. We started the game with a boom as we snatched up two runs in the first inning, but from then on our offensive efforts seemed to bog dovsm, and we were held scoreless for the rest of the game, Webster matched our two runs in the first inning with two of their own and then pro- ceeded to score two runs in the second inning, one run in the fourth inning, one run in the fifth inning, and one run in the sixth inning to make the final score 7 to 2, Webster's favor. On September 27, we played Woodville, Once again we started off with a bang, this time by hitting in two runs in the third inning before our rivals could wake up. But the force of Pem- berville's offensive efforts snapped Woodville out of its trance, and with a man on base tlhey slapp- ed out two home runs in a row to make the seore 3 to 2 in Woodville's favor. Then in the fifth inning they grabbed two more runs and put the game on ice, Final score, 5 to 2, Wood- ville's favor. On October 2, we played our first and last Wood County Tournament game. It was with Troy-Lucky. Because the City diamond at Bowling Green was we were forced to play Luckey mond. But the Trojans seemed Park baseball flooded by rain, on our own lia- undismayed and proved it by slamming out three runs in the first inning, four in tlhe third. three in the fourth, and one in the fifth, Pemberville rallied in the fifth inning to get its one and only run.
