VVe started our Freshman year with Mr. Heckman as our class sponsor. WVe received four new pupils: Romayne Abke, Desta Dierksheide, Norma Ernsthaus- en and Kenneth Sieving from New Rochester. VVe chose as our class officers: President --- Marian Cochran Vice President --- Norma Ernsthausen Secretary --- Ellen WVegman Treasurer --- JoAnn Gockerman Reporter ---Lois Vvigman During the year we had a skating party at Per- rysburg., also a party at the school. Summer passed quickly and we were once more back in school with twenty-seven pupils to start the Sophomore year with Mrs. Cornell as our sponsor. Howard Nollenberger joined us in January. VVe chose the following as our class officers: President --- Kenneth Sieving Vice President --- Robert Kohring Secretary --- Ellen WVegman Treasurer --- Margaret Henline Reporter --- Norma Ernsthausen VVe were proud of our Sophomore boys when they won the interclass tournament, and a party was given for them by the girls. Several of our fellows were on the reserve basketball team. The big event of the year was selecting our class r'ngs. XVe were very proud to wear them when We re- ceived them at the end of the year. Fall came around again, this time we were enter- ing school as Juniors. YVe numbered twenty-seven when we added Francis Venis as a new member. During the year we lost one pupil., Beulah Baker. VVe were again sponsored by Mrs. Cornell. YVe elected the following officers: President --- JoAnn Gockerman Vice President --- Howard Nollenberger Secretary --- Norma Ernsthausen Treasurer --- Scott Muir Reporter --- Hilda Wventland A big event for us was our class play, entitled Listen to Lester, given November 8, 1946, under the direction of Mrs. Cornell. During the year we sponsored a high school dance. YVe also had charge of cooking and serving the Eleva- tor Banquet. These were ways of earning money for the trip we were planning to take at the end of our Senior year. Of course the biggest event of all and the long awaited for event was the Junior-Senior Prom held on May 9th. Much time was spent in preparation. The theme was a garden scene. Punch was served in a wishing well in a corner of the auditorium, with wish- ing wells in the middle of each table. The orchestra was placed under a summer house with roses twined around it. The food was good and everyone had an enjoyable time. September 1947 --- the year which we had waited so patiently for came at last. We were Seniors, all twenty-six of us.. Mrs. Cornell was our sponsor again. We chose the following officers: President --- Scott Muir Vice President --- Hilda Wentland Secretary --- Gene Kohring tContinuedb jACOB'S 'MARKET Meats Food Lockers Luckey, Ohio I 2 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY---fC0ntinuedJ Treasurer --- Kenneth Sieving Reporter --- Lois VVigman The first event of the year was the photographing of our class at the Dicken's Studio in Fostoria on O tober two. Again several of our boys were on the basketball teams. Magazine sale, banquets and a play increased our treasury. VVe chose as our class motto Success Awaits at La- bor's Gate. Our class colors were red and white. On April 30, we gave our play under the direction of Miss Crafts. Then came the Junior-Senior Banquet on May 7, an event that will linger in our memories. The Baccalaureate Service was held on May 16. May 21 was Commencement. Mr. Fred Klag gave an interesting talk. To all our teachers, and especially to Mrs. Kfornell, we offer our thanks for their patience, advice and guid- ance. Now that the year has drawn to a close, we shall never forget the four years we spent together. VVe have shared happiness and disappointments but our high school days will ever linger in our memories. Mr. Beverly, a man of large affairs in New York City, is surrounded by two extravagant, luxury loving daughters, a reckless, spendthrift son ancl a wnife who, improvident herself, has spoiled her children from the time they were born. The Beverly family has been spending money faster than the head of the house can earn it. Beverly is beset with creditors who even follow him out to his sumptuous Long Island home and threat- en proceedings. He tries to make his famiily see the necessity of economy and warns them of the inevi- table crash impending. lnstead of heeding him however, his warning is greeted with sneers andcriti- cism and they decuide that he is an old grouch. into this clouded atmosphere of selfishness, deceit and false show comes Polly Perkins, llVlr. Beverly's ward and a modest heiress. The Beverly mode of living on Long Island is in decided con- trast to the simple New England village life to which she has been accustomed and for a moment she loses her bearings. But her heart and understanding are as brig as all out of -:loors and her eternal optimism and good will soon assert themselves. She brings with her the freedom an.d fragrance of the New England Berkshires, and instead of adapting herself to her new surroundings, she sets out to make them conform to her own standards of simplicity and happiness. I-ler very presence clarifies the at- mosphere. Not content with reforming the Beverly houzehold, she goes into the poor districts of the village and even there her winning personality works miracles. Through her kindness of heart two ragged, unwashecl children are introduced into high society, causing joy, consternation and condemnation among the various members of the 400. Beverly returns from tse city a ruined man and his family faces the prospect of moving into a Harlem flat, which to their way of thinking is worse than death. At this juncture Polly comes to the rescue and with sublime faithfulness places her legacy, which represents every penn.y she has in the world, into the hands of her guardian to help him stem the tide. ln the meantime Beverly's son Baldwin, who makes love to every pretty vface he meets, has fallen desperately in love with Polly. lt proves the making of him. He actually goes to work for the first time in hiis life. Through Polly's influence we see the better instincts of thes Beverly family and their friend come to the surface. They realize that money is not everything, that social position and false friends do not constitute happiness and that Polly Perkins is a wonderful little person. Her guardian is saved from ruin and she finds her ovsm happiness in the good she has wrought and the true love of Baldwin Beverly. GULF SCHRODER FLORAL CO. Ronald IVIcCreary SYNOPSIS Barbara Young, an attractive girl from the east, goes to visit her cousin, Sally Dudley, who lives on a ranch in the west. While she is there she falls in love with a young man from the east fBertram Weeks, who is staying at the DudIey's ranch gathering material for a book. Bertram is a very timid person. Barbara knows, however, that her dad would like her to marry some big, handsome he-man. So, when she writes to get her father's consent to marry Bertram, she puts in some things to make her father think Bertram is the type of man he wants hr to marrv. I-Ierfather,however instead of wiring his consent. as she thought he would, decvides to come and meet Bertram. When Sally and Barbara find this out they think up a scheme by which they hope to make Bertram appear to be all the things she said he was. Their scheme is upset by Sam Banks, a ranch hand who is in Iove with Barbara. Another incident arises however which gives Bertram a chance to prove himseif. I-Ie then becomes a hero and Barbara's father gives his cinsent to their mar- riage. V LOOMIS RADIO SERVICE FRED BEEKER E. A choir and rhythm band were again organized this year in the first and second grades. They were active both at the Christmas and Easter Programs. The most interesting project the third graders completed this year, was the mak- ing of hand-puppets and then giving puppet shows to the first and second graders. For the P. T. A. Christmas Program the third graders favored the audience with some selections from their H Kitchen Rhythm Orchestra. Our sweetwind ensemble from the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades appeared twice this year. We played three numbers on the Christmas program and at our last P. T. A. program we delighted the audience by playing three part music. Mrs. Ward, our bird woman, organized our two junior Audubon Clubs again this year. Pemberville School has one of the largest Audubon Clubs in the state of Ohio. We are grateful to lMrs. Ward for her splendid work and interest. All six grades are members of the Junior Red Cross. Many gift boxes were sent overseas at Christmas time. Earning money to pay for our play-ground equipment has been a project this year. We have collected sales-tax stamps, sold home-made candy and tickets for the American Legion. With everyone working we have over one hundred dollars. Each child in the grades responded t'o the Easter Seal sale by purchasing a ten.- cent package, thus helping the Crippled Children. Each 'Tuesday afternoon the grades enjoyed listening to Mrs. Evelyn Summer's program from the Toledo Art Museum called Making Friends With Music. The Senior girls were enthusiastic concerning this undertaking and worked diligently at making it a paper of which we could be proud. Several copies have been, sent to surrounding schools and have been 'commended highly. We are hopiing that in a few years of development it will have a larger content and be recognized as still a fine paper. There is a membership of thirty-five, and although only a young band, it has achieved an ex- cellent reputation from surrounding towns. During the summer of I947, the Band gave concerts every Saturday evening on the bandstand on Front Street. The concerts were made possible by the Civic Club and were well attended by the local citizens. A CAPELLA CI-IOIIR An A Capella Choir has taken form in our school and with the co-operation of the students, there is a membership of sixty-eight voices, of which we are very proud. They rendered several selections in a Christmas program sponsored by the P. T. A. At this program they wore black choir robes with their white collars, which was very impressive and was con- ducted in a reverent fashion. They also took part in the spring music festival, which was a great success. Most of the songs practiced by this group are along religious lines. Some of them are The Twenty-Third Psalm, God is a Spirit, and Hear My Prayer, O God. 'These renditions are re- ceived with great enthusiasm by the audience. GIRLS' GLEE. CLUB The Girls' Glee Club is a musical organization consisting of iforty-five members. lt has taken part in the musical programs that have occurred during the year, some of which were the spring mu- sic feshival and the Christmas program. The girls enjoy meeting together twice a week to produce the harmony for which they are striv- ing. Most of the music practiced by this group is gay and melodious. They are singing such songs as: l Passed By Your Window, Sing Again, lVlarcheta, and i'The Green Cathedral. ORCHESTRA Thfis year Mr. Kingsbury has organized an orchestra consisting mostly of junior high students. This is the smallest musical organization but it has a membership of thirty, which we consider a good beginning. Starting wmith a group of violin beginners and the .lunior Band group combined, Mr. Kingsbury hopes to have a very good orchestra in another year. Since this organization is new and undeveloped it has not had an opportunity to show its true worth. However, the group made its first public ap- pearance in the May Festival program and performed very creditably. KUEI-llVlANN'S Say Q-lVlan's ORIGINAL Since IS99 55 WHO'S WHO Best Looking Boy ....... Donna: Surely you're gouing to say something to that man? Heber: l sure am. just wait until l get this car started. Lois Wigman: Doctor, l am afraid l'm goig to die. Doctor: Nonsense, gthat's the last thin.g you'll do. If you woul-d have gone to school back in 1924 you would have gotten quite a kick out of a poem called For Sale. We got most of the dust off of the l929 annual and found that old poem: here it is: FOR SALE. One Ford car with piston rings Two rear wheels and one front spring, Has no fen.ders, seat or tank, Burns lots of gas and is hard to crank. Carburetor busted half way through, Engine missing---hits on twog Three years old, four in the spring, Has shock absorbers 'neverything. Radiator busted---sure does leak, Differential dry---you can hear' it squeak: Ten spokes missing, front all ben.t, Top blown offf anin't worth a cent. Got lots of speed, runs like the deuce, Burns either gas or tobacco juiceg Tires all off, been run on the rim, BUT She's a darn good Liz for the shape she's in. HOBART - BOWLUS ' - DR. H. E. I thought I saw another man running off with you. Jewell Lawson: And then what did you do? Scott Mcffreary: I asked him why he was running. A poem dedicated to all Chemistry Students: A green little Chemist, In a green little way, Was fooling with chemicals One bright summer's day. Now the green. little grasses tenderly wave O'er that green little Chemists green little grave. 'Miss Crafts: fpointing to a map? Now Dick, when you face north, on your left hand you have the great continent of Asia. What do you have on your right hand? Dick Becker: A wart, but I can't help it. Vernon Hiser: You are the sunshine of my life, you alone reign in my heart. Without you life is but a dreary cloud---etc. Carolyn Rahe: What :is that, a proposal or a weather report? David A. My father is an Eagle, an Elk, A Moose, and a Lion. Victor S. How much does it cost to see him? George Alexander and john Dierksen were hunting when. George shouted: Hey!! John are you all right?
