When we became juniors we knew a much more eventful year was ahead of us. During the year, a few new members entered and some discontinued the work. At present there are forty members enrolled. The band spent months of hard practice and certainly deserves credit for the progress which has been made. We hope to have a larger organization next year. Prac- tices were held each week on Monday night and for forty-five minutes Wednesday afternoons. Fine cooperation was shown throughout the year between the members and the director. Our white uniforms with caps and capes of black and red made us feel proud. Through the willingness and cooperation of the band masters, we were able to secure such fine uniforms. We made our appea, ance at the Fall Fair, at the tournament at Bowling Green, at chapel programs, and on Armistice Day. We gave a concert Sunday afternoon, March 29. At this time let- ters were distributed to the players for their work during the year and for their regular attendance The band bought a sousaphone with contributions of the citizens of Pemberxille We thank all the people who gave to this cause The sousaphone adds to the appearance and quality of the band Glenn Sharp, who plays the sousaphone, won the rating of excellent in this district He certainly deserves a lot of credit for his fine woik The ban attended the Music Festival at North Baltimore and received the rating of excellent The band also attended the Music Festival held at Bowling Green, May first and the Peony Festival held at Van Nert The officers of the band are as follows President, David Sharp, Secretary Tleasller, Margorie Titkemeier, Librarian, Alice Hummel, Cape Custodian, Floise Dyer Those who received letters are as follows First year Robert Titkemeier, Robert Speck, Martha Ullom, Owen Ernsthausen, Daniel Springei, Norman F ederick, Margorie Ha el Second year Bonnie Jean Emch, Ralph Coppeler, Alice Hum mel, Glenn Sharp, Robert Krift, Richard Wagner, Mvrth Ernsthau sen, Narcena Wegman, Arvella Martin Third year Dale Sharp, Howard Michel, Paul Ullom, David Sharp, Willis Sandwisch, Eloise Dyer, Margorie Titkemeier, Clarence Hoodlebrink, Robert Hannan, Virginia Hiser, Robert Hagg, Phyllis Williams, Frna Springer Phyllis Williams fl956L O . . . . . . 7 0 . . .- 1 U U . . . . . . I L I e FOODS CLASS This year our class of eleven has been engaged in prac- tical work. During the first few weeks of the school year the canning unit was undertaken. Most of the food for can- ing was donated, and it proved to be a valuable asset to the cafeteria. The breakfast, luncheon, and dinner units followed. As a climax to the luncheon unit, a typical luncheon was pre- pared and served. During the study of the dinner unit the class visited the meat market at Wayne, where an excellent demonstration of meat cuts was given by L. F. Hartenfeld. A cake baking contest proved an interesting project during this dinner unit. Each student baked a cake which was judged by Mrs. Lowell Hobart. Winners of the contest were: Clara Dennis, first, Arvella Sieving, secondg and Clarence Hoodlebrink, third. For one week of the final six weeks term, the Junior and Senior Manual Training boys studied Table Service, Table Etiquette, Manners and learned how to prepare several well liked foods The girls became acouainted with the tool shop and made clever wren houses At the close of the year an exhibit was given in which the year's work of the four Home Economics classes was dis played Carolyn Pertner ESSAY CONTEST A re ber of the paomore class had the roror of being one of the twelve stto nts in the state to succeed in secur ing a trip to Washington D C by means of an essay contest The essay entitled UOur American Heritagen was sponsor ed by the American Legion An essay of not less than five hundred words was required to be written by all the students of our high school Waldo Egbert was the lucky chap who won this trip The twelve studerts and seven chaperons started from Columbus, Ohio, on Easter morning, April l2 The party in four automobiles toured extensively through Pennsylvania, first going to Washington, Penn , then to Gettysburg, and at last sightseeing in Philadelphia They then continued through Baltimore, Maryland, and arrived in Washington D C the evening of April 14 Four delightful days were spent in the Capital The group returned to Columbus the afternoon of April 19, happy and tiled Dorothy Czirr Xl936 f - . . . . CHAPEL PROGRAM Students of Pemberville High School always look for- ward to the regular Friday morning chapel program. At this time the usual UAll come forward for chapeln is heard. After we have assembled in the front of the study hall, either some teacher, some class, or some club takes charge. After a short period of devotions, there is a planned program, e.g. the Freshmen had a hymn appreciation program by which we learned some of the interesting histories of familiar hymns, the Juniors brought to us Rev. Miley of Stony Ridgeg the Public Speaking class gave a program re- presenting phases of class work. Such is the nature of our chapel programs Since the purcla e a moving picture machine last year, we have been ole engoy about two dozen educa tional pictures this school year These are usually pre sented during the last half hour of school on Friday Eileen Rhoda SCI NCE CLUB The Science Club of 1936 was organized January 18 by our sponsor, Mr Downing Thirty five members are now en rolled Kenneth Bushman is our president, George Madaras, the vice president, and Lester Jenkins is the secretary Our aim tlis y ar was to put before the public a demonstration of scientific interest This was accom plished through the courtesy of the Toledo Edison Company On April 2 an electrical show illustrating and giving a history of different types of light was sponsored by the club The electric eye proved to be extremelv interesting We wish the 1937 Science Club success May they have many members and as much fun as we have had Lester Jenkins 1195652 .
