Pecatonica's 1965 track season started low, but gradually worked itself up to a 2nd place finish in the Conference track meet behind a very strong Byron team. Pec was strongest in the field events, with Rex Cortright and Lee Halley battling over the shot put record. Lee set the final record at 45 ft. 8 in., but Rex will have another shot at that next year. Another record was broken by Paul Wiley in the pole vault, upping his old record to 11 ft. 9 in. 34 Baseball ROW 1-J. Dean, R. Cortright, L. Halley, G. Doty, D. Johnson, J. Flynn, K. Breeze, R. The year was made brighter when Pec made it to the finals of the district tournament where they lost to a strong East Rockford team. There are many boys coming back from last year’s team and Mr. Whitehead expects a good season in the spring of 1966. Cross Country ROW 1 - R. McLarty, M. McGlothlin, G. Orris, R. Worthington. Pec's only loss was to non-conference Durand in the opening game of the season. The Indians steadily improved throughout the year shuting out five conference teams and allowing only 12 points to be scored against them in conference play. Pec gave every team a hard fought battle finishing third in the Route 72 Conference. Pec came closest to beating the number one team, Forreston, than any other team in the conference. Although they didn’t do very well in the Durand Holiday Tournament, the Indians made up for it by defeating Hononegah, Orangeville, and South Beloit to win the District Championship. This was Pecatonica’s first District Championship since 1948. Pec then advanced to the Regional Tournament at East Rockford. A wild, enthusiastic crowd was on hand at East as Pec took on the home court team. Pec put up a good fight, but was defeated by a strong East Rockford team. This was Coach Slimko’s second year of coaching at Pec and his team’s 14-10 record and a District Championship can show he did a good job of it. Kauffman, was presented by the class of '66 on March 19, 1965, as their Junior class play. As the play opens Newton Fuller brings his wife Annabelle, daughter Madge, and Madge's boy friend Steve Eldridge to see the house he has just bought. The house, being two-hundred years old, lacks modern facilities and is badly in need of repair. Mr. Fuller uses the argument that George Washington was supposed to have slept in this house to convince his family that living in the country couldn't be so bad. Later they find out that it was Benedict Arnold instead of Washington who slept in the house. With the help of the caretaker, Mr. Kimber, the Fullers get the house back in good repair. It costs more than they figured on though, and by the time the next payment of the mortgage is due they are out of money. Mr. Prescott, their neighbor; who holds the mortgage and also owns the only road leading to the Fuller's property, says that if they can not make the payment he will make them move out. Mr. Fuller's “rich Uncle Stanley arrives just in time to help out, but when Newton asks for an advance on his inheritance Uncle Stanley reveals that he hasn't got a penny. It looks as though the Fullers will have to leave anyhow, so they decide to leave the place just as they found it—a mess! Just as all seems lost, Steve and Madge find a map which shows that Mr. Prescott's road and some of his property belong to the Fullers. Prescott agrees to let the Fullers keep the house and a settlement is made. 58 Sadie Hawkins “I finally got mah man.” Dog patch kin. “My group had 23% fewer cavities.” 59 Classroom Capers Buggie Biology.
