Tears fill our eyes Because it’s all gone, We’re starting a new life. We have to move on. We hope our friends will keep in touch As the years pass us by, Although it hurts inside We’ll try not to cry. We think of kindergarten And our first day, Now we’ve reached the end We are going away. How do you say good-bye, To friends who mean so much? Will there be time To sincerely keep in touch? You’ll always have the memories Of your school years from day one, Don’t think of school as ending — Think a new life has begun. PRINCIPAL TO THE CLASS OF 1987 It is one of the pleasures of my position that I get to do the official honors of signing and awarding diplomas on graduation day. However there are other pleasant duties of equal degree prior to that day. Specifically, I have enjoyed watching the Class of 1987 compete with success in athletics - and I have enjoyed watching them perform in music, drama, academic competitions, and in scholarship competitions. As a group, you have distinguished yourselves. You were the first group affected by the reorganization of the school system in 1 98 1 and you are the first class to graduate from PVMHS since its conversion to a four year high school. Based on your success and growth here I have confid- ence in your ability to succeed further either in continued education, or in the community. You leave here with a good foundation for your future lives. I look forward to hearing of your successes. Thank you for your efforts. Good luck in your future endeavors. Charles j. McCarthy, jr. J. Just yesterday we were complaining we’d never get to the highschool. Just yesterday we were entering PVMHS as meek little sopho- mores. Remember sitting in the gym the first day of school not knowing what to expect. We were categorized and alphabetized by our new unit directors: Mr. Eagar, Mr. Codair, and Dr. Faria. Then were were brought on a tour of the “big” school. It seemed so complicated- A-house was blue, B-house was orange, or was that C-house, or maybe it was yellow, red? Oh well! It didn’t take most of us very long to figure out which way the cafeteria was or all the shorcuts to your oh so favorite classes. We underclassmen did not get many special privleges, but we did get class officers. We voted Julie Haggerty in as our President, Elizabeth Upham vice-president, Rachel Goldstein secretary, and Vera Brodsky treasurer. With the help of Mr. Terlizzi, their advisor, and also with the help of the homeroom reps, they raised $1500 in a magazine drive for our class. As sophmores we also managed to receive gym TWO periods a week, mandatory health class, and study hall on the bus ramp. We were so lucky. Winter time was the best - - - especially the chilling memories of waiting for the bus every morning. A bright spot in our year was Student Council’s Carnation Day and their Computer Dating Game. Time passed by quickly. Finals were over, we had the whole summer ahead of us, and a new title - JUNIORS! Junior year was one of the best. Now we had someone to pick on — the sophomores. We kicked off the year with the election of new officers: Mark Jones President, Elizabeth Upham Vice-President, Julie Albanese Secretary, Michael Looby Treasurer, and new advisor Mrs. Yost. The first event sched- uled was the Junior Class Halloween Party. Held at Kowloon’s, it was a big success. The Wizard of Oz won Best Group (Julie Haggerty, Christine DeMaria, Rachel Goldstein, Danielle Remis, and Tara Kulak). Other interesting charac- ters showed up as well: Ed Greemly, “The Nerd”, Raggedy Ann ’N Andy, a green M M, and the Bud Man to name a few. PSAT’s were being taken and then SAT’s. People were starting driving classes and getting their license. Remember those interesting Tanner City Driver’s Ed classes? February brought carnation day and the Valentine’s Day Semi-Formal at the Jimmy’s Allenhurst. It was our chance to dress up and have a good time. The Pizza Party at the Prince Spaghetti House came next. The officers had a rough time getting that off the ground. Mrs. Yost had to be absent the day it had to get approved by Student Council. A forgery was attempted (Yoast? Yoste?), but it failed. Anyway the whole deal was cancelled then not cancelled. We still had a good time once we found out if it was still on. Junior Year — we got fitted for our class ring, lounge, door 9 got closed a dozen times, gym only one period a week, and lounge lounge lounge. We got fitted for class rings, too. Spring time rolled around and so did the prom. Guys in their tuxes. Girls in their gowns. Everyone looked gorgeous on May 16, 1986 at the Sheraton Tara. The prom king was our president, Mark Jones, and queen belonged to Lisa Monahan. The prom was a perfect ending to such a good year. Once again we struggled through finals and the witnessed 1986 Seniors gradu- HISTORY ate. Now we started to feel like the “big guys”. Summer time was great. Hit the beach during the day, cruising around in your new cars, working, Land ’N Sea, movies, sleeping, parties, and no homework. We started off year the day before school started with the annual Back to School Luau at Kowloon’s September 2, 1986. From 7 to 11 pm we had great music by Gary Graham and Chinese food. We dance all night in Hawaiian shirts and Jams. School started on the 4th. Class officers were elected for our final year: Mark Jones was once again the student’s choice as well as Elizabeth Upham and Julie Albanese, Kelly Cragg was made treasurer. 1st quarter was a busy time for everyone — SAT’s were being held, applications had to be done, Senior pictures to get rid of, and plenty of decisions to make. Everybody was feeling a lot of pressure. It didn’t help that freshman had joined us. Halls were packed and you had little people running all over your feet. You can’t forget our excellent football season. Our team, with its perfect record, went all the way to the Super Bowl at Sullivan Stadium. We had the Zoo Crew to get the fans going. It was definitely our season. We were “The Mighty Mighty Tanners”. On Monday, November 10 at Knights of Columbus we had our costume party. Outfits were even better than the year before - Best Costumes were: ZZ TOP (Gary Bua, Sean Doherty, Jeff Caron), The Chip- munks (Kim Goodman, Kristen Brown, and Wendy Davis), Half Man Half Woman (Liz Nee). Costumes were unbelieveable- an oversized lobster, a preg- neant nun, a penguin, a Christmas tree, Fred Flinstone, Snow White and the 7 dwarfs, cookie monster, the Marx Brothers, and Jason. Not soon after we were getting fitted for caps and gowns and buying our tassels. The feeling that we really were graduating was beginning to set in. The Senior Snowball was February 7, at the Steven-James. As usual everyone looked great. Mid-terms were over and slight senioridas set in. Student Council held their annual carnation day: Red I Love You, Pink I Like You, White I Want to get to know you. By the way president of Student Council, Julie Haggerty, did an excellent job in telling off the school newspaper. They know now that no one puts down Seniors without just cause. The Toga Party was to follow March — Friday the 13th, the first a nnual all-school dance sponsored by the Senior Class. The Seniors also planned a trip to the Rocky Horror Show. Soon to foolow would be Senior Week, with the Prom, Field Day, YEARBOOKS, and finally gradua- tion. We had some of the best times of our lives. So many memories — the broken water pipe in the caf, the day we had 8 fire drills in the rain, lunch being raised to 85C, 7 abscences a quarter, too many tardys, and Friday nights. Twenty years from now it will seem like “just yesterday” we got these yearbooks. Time goes by so fast. We hope you have awesome memories of highschool and we hope the yearbook will bring back many more. Good luck — and never forget the good times you had and the good times to come. Your patient understanding has given us the strength and confidence we need as we pass through the doors of Peabody High School one last time. 80 SENIOR MESSAGE The Class of 1987 has been involved in many changes. Despite these changes we have grown together since our sophomore year. Each year we have overcome problems to stay together and represent Peabody High School as the Class of 1987. As a class we are al- ways looking for new activities and new ideas. If this positive attitude is any reflection of our future, we will reach definite success in life. Our Senior year has been one of ups and downs. We’ve had plenty of good times which we will remember for years to come. There were times when we thought we’d never get there, but our graduation came upon us faster than we ever expected. Before we know it, we will be going our seperate ways. We hope when you remember Peabody High School you remember the learning, the maturing, the friendships, and the good times. As the Senior Class Officers of 1987 we wish for you good luck, a happy life, and excellent memo- ries of the years we have spent together. Best Wishes-We’ll Miss You! The Tanners achieved their undefeated record by crushing their opponents, with their slim- mest margins of victory all season being three points over Malden and six points over Salem in the first two games. Running back Pat Cullen led the team offensively, and co-captains Gary Bua and Bob Irzyk headed up a strong defen- sive line.
