£f)rtau)tf Tv l i fouj “We ended in disappointment, I hope next year they’ll end in success.” -Sandy Hess Jennie Howard- I got it. Nicole Buss Tina Glynn- Ok Nicole, this ones yours.” August 18th brought 19 girls to the Pawnee City gym to start two-a-day practices filled with hard work, sweat and dedication. These ladies were anticipating the start of a new volleyball season-the disappointment of losing the thrill of winning, and the fun that comes with being part of a team. The volleyball team experienced many successes this year, such as getting 2nd in the Dawson-Verdon Tourna- ment. and winning 11 games throughout their season. With these successes came honors for certain girls on the team. Those receiving honors were Nicole Buss, All Con- ference 1st team, All State Honorable Mention Omaha World Herald, Lincoln Journal All State 2nd team; Tina Glynn, 2nd team All Conference. Although the team will feel the loss of it’s six starting Seniors, they are again anticipating another “Super Charged season next year. Nicole Buss. Gina Koll. Tina Glynn, Rochelle Wielage. Bettw Ludc Next Yeav 24 “It was a long and disappointing season, but I think if the guys pull together they can have a really great ball club next year.” -Nick Cline Losing hurts more than winning feels good. This quote was made by a Boston Red Sox player after they were defeated in the World Se- ries. What does this have to do with Pawnee City High School Football? This statement tells what the Indians felt-a lot of hurt. The Indians started their season with a win over NCL but could only conquer one other team this year that being Falls City Sacred Heart. The boys put in a lot of time, a lot of sweat and a lot of sprints but the year wasn't to be theirs. Pawnee seemed to be pla- gued by injury causing many grid- ders to sit the sidelines. Don’t get us wrong-many good things happened too. All Confer- ence selections included Jason Kennedy. D.J. Weddle, Jim Brad- bury, Mike Lang, and Doug Bedea, with Kennedy also receiving the Omaha World Herald Academic All State award, and recognition in the Beatrice Sun as player of the week. As all athletics do, this year boiled down to the thrill of victory, winning the FCSH game in the last seconds; the agony of defeat, being beat by Odell; and the fun of the game, Ice Box Blecha converging the extra points. The boys that came out for football left the field in October as men who had learned, taught, and grown; no matter how the record ended. 1986 Football Team: Front Row: Nick Cline. Shane Friedly.
