ELCGME ALUNGSIDEI STA DBY FOR SHUT LINES! On the morning of 12 March 1969, PAWCATUCK got underway from Mayport, Fla., with orders to deploy to the Medi- terranean. The Smiling Indian and her crew had a vital mission to fulfill, to provide fuel and other supplies to sustain the various units of the United States Sixth Fleet op- erating in the Mediterranean. After an out- standing Advent, the PAWCATUCK and her orew were ready to show the Sixth Fleet the capabilities of a hardworking Jumbo Oiler. Determined to do a good job, PAW- CATUCK went out for the six months replenishing 327 ships. Besides 30 million gal. of fuel pumped. The Deck igang's burton and highline rigs were kept busy transferring many tons of fleet freight, mail, provisions, bottled gases, movies, personnel and even a cake or two to the Sixth Fleet units.
