Duffield, Gary Pilgrim and Jack Kinnebrew. Kaye Ryland was Secretary-Treasurer. Ten Juniors played in the Band and Ann Seiber was attendant to the Band Queen. Six Junior girls sang with the Chorus. The Trio consisting of Darlene West, Sharron Lowe and Linda Gibbons won for the fourth consecutive year in the State Vocal Contest. In the Student Council Talent Show they won first place. Six boys were members of the FFA, while 11 Juniors were members of DE. Marching with the high stepping Drill Team were 11 Juniors. Lending their voices to the Pep Club were 19 Juniors. The cheerleaders were Kaye Ryland and Carol Sacra. Ten earned parts in the Junior Play Dear Ruth. Sharon Lowe and Jack Kinnebrew held the lead parts. Winning the drama awards at the end of the year were Curtis Lawrence and Sharron Lowe. Phyllis Kastner, Br unetta Hays and Lou Ann Pybas attended Girls' State at Chickasha, while Bert Humphrey, Jim Craig, Jack Kinnebrew and Richard Davis were chosen to attend Boys' State at Norman. At the end of the year, 14Juniors became mem- bers of the State Honor Society. Kenneth Berry received an award for ten years' perfect attendance. Finances from the Junior Play amounted to 320455. This year during Hobo Day the Juniors brought in 3714.775 this was 339.77 more than last year's tally. Joan Duffield, Kay Chapman, Sharron Lowe and Betsy Trahern made S70. The theme for the Junior-Senior Banquet was Hawaiian Cruise. Decorations for the banquet proved to be the prettiest ever, including: palm trees, a water falls, Hawaiian music, oriental birds and cages, a wishing well, and the lei-type center pieces of exotic flowers. The Bird of Paradise flowers proved to be the topic of conversation, catching everyone's eye. The mothers provided a beautifully decorated prom. The Journalism class published the first annual with a padded back this year. The American History assembly, bearing the title of OurAmerican Heritage, proved success- ful with participation from all the Juniors. The DAR History Award was given to Richard Davis. During School Spirit Week, Jim McClain and Darlene West were best dressed as Lil' Abner and Daisy Mae on Sadie Hawkins Day. At the beginning of the fourth year there were 108 Seniors enrolled. Included in the calendar for the Seniors were the Senior picnic, the teas for the girls, Career Day for the boys, the Awards Assembly and the Junior-Senior Banquet. The Senior High Student Council joined the National Association for Student Councils for the first time this year. Directed study courses were added to the cur- riculum for Sophomore through Senior students this year. ln the DS courses the B has the same value as an A in the regular course. E lilll HI 'l'0llY Jack Kinnebrew was elected President of the 161 Freshmen who enrolled at the beginning of the year. The Football team was very successful, win- ning five games, losing two, and for the first time in three years, the Panthers defeated the Ada Cougars. Captain, Lewis Davis, crowned Joan Duffield as Football Queen and her attendants were Carol Sacra and Jane James. The theme for the corona- tion was Blue Star. The Panther Cagers won ten games and lost six, proving good spirit. They elected Betsy Trahern queen and she was attended by Kaye Ryland and Darlene West. Vernon Prince was captain and Jim Craig was co-captain. Over the Rainbow was the theme for the crowning. Six Freshmen reported for track. Officers in the Pep Club were President Joan Duffield, Vice-President Carol Sacra, Secretary Mignon Ward. Kaye Ryland and Darlene West were cheerleaders. Members in the Student Council were Janet Allsup and H. A. Caves. Mignon Ward was President of FHA and Karen Crouch was Secretary. Other officers were Kay Chapman, Kaye Ryland, and Jane James. There were 12 Freshmen in the band. Brunetta Hays was a majorette. Five band members were in the Blasters. The Chorus was well represented with 22 members. This was the first year that the Junior High Chorus won a superior rating. Twelve boys were members of the FFA, while fourteen Freshmen were members of the State Honor Society. The Drill Team was organized this year, but Freshmen were not eligible. ln 1957, 139 Sophomores enrolled. They chose as their class officers, President Melton Graham and Secretary Lewis Davis. Student Council members were Gary Pilgrim, Kaye Ryland, Ronnie Reeves, and Janet Allsup. One of the Council's main activities was the Talent Show. First place went to the Tumblers and second place went to the High School Trio. Key Club members were Jim Craig and Bert Humphrey. Thirteen Sophomores aided the Pep Club in their activities. The girls were present at all of the home games and attended several of the out-of- town games. Kaye Ryland and Carol Sacra were cheerleaders. Marching at all home football games were 10 Sophomore Pepperettes. Nineteen Sophomores represented the Glee Club and attended the State Choral Festival at Ada. Six were members of the Mixed Chorus. Eleven Sophomore members of the Band attended the State Fair Parade and McAlester Band Festival. Ann Sei ber and Brunetta Hays were twirlers. Participating in the four track meets were Melton Graham, Lewis Davis, Jarvis Bull and Floyd Hunter. They placed second in the Confer- ence Track Meet. Floyd Aiken, Jim Burks and Jim Craig played Baseball this year. This was the first year since 1923 an annual with a hard back was published. Class officers of the 116 Juniors were Presi- dent Gary Pilgrim, Vice-President Richard Herrin, Secretary Betsy Trahern, Reporter Vicki Ward. Eighteen Juniors reported for Football this season and 14 were lettermen. This was the first year that the main string Basketball team was all Juniors. They won seven games. They elected Kay Ryland queen and Joan Duffield attendant. The Captain was Lewis Davis. Co-captains were Jim Craig and Ronnie Tooley. Six Juniors played with the Baseball team. They participated in eight conference games. Supporting a hard-working Track team were five Juniors, with two returning lettermen, Melton Graham and Lewis Davis, on the relay team. Jawis Bull threw the shot and the discus, while Gary Pilgrim was pole vaulter. Running the mile was Floyd Hunter. Two Juniors were members of the Key Club.
