E lilll HI 'l'0llY Jack Kinnebrew was elected President of the 161 Freshmen who enrolled at the beginning of the year. The Football team was very successful, win- ning five games, losing two, and for the first time in three years, the Panthers defeated the Ada Cougars. Captain, Lewis Davis, crowned Joan Duffield as Football Queen and her attendants were Carol Sacra and Jane James. The theme for the corona- tion was Blue Star. The Panther Cagers won ten games and lost six, proving good spirit. They elected Betsy Trahern queen and she was attended by Kaye Ryland and Darlene West. Vernon Prince was captain and Jim Craig was co-captain. Over the Rainbow was the theme for the crowning. Six Freshmen reported for track. Officers in the Pep Club were President Joan Duffield, Vice-President Carol Sacra, Secretary Mignon Ward. Kaye Ryland and Darlene West were cheerleaders. Members in the Student Council were Janet Allsup and H. A. Caves. Mignon Ward was President of FHA and Karen Crouch was Secretary. Other officers were Kay Chapman, Kaye Ryland, and Jane James. There were 12 Freshmen in the band. Brunetta Hays was a majorette. Five band members were in the Blasters. The Chorus was well represented with 22 members. This was the first year that the Junior High Chorus won a superior rating. Twelve boys were members of the FFA, while fourteen Freshmen were members of the State Honor Society. The Drill Team was organized this year, but Freshmen were not eligible. ln 1957, 139 Sophomores enrolled. They chose as their class officers, President Melton Graham and Secretary Lewis Davis. Student Council members were Gary Pilgrim, Kaye Ryland, Ronnie Reeves, and Janet Allsup. One of the Council's main activities was the Talent Show. First place went to the Tumblers and second place went to the High School Trio. Key Club members were Jim Craig and Bert Humphrey. Thirteen Sophomores aided the Pep Club in their activities. The girls were present at all of the home games and attended several of the out-of- town games. Kaye Ryland and Carol Sacra were cheerleaders. Marching at all home football games were 10 Sophomore Pepperettes. Nineteen Sophomores represented the Glee Club and attended the State Choral Festival at Ada. Six were members of the Mixed Chorus. Eleven Sophomore members of the Band attended the State Fair Parade and McAlester Band Festival. Ann Sei ber and Brunetta Hays were twirlers. Participating in the four track meets were Melton Graham, Lewis Davis, Jarvis Bull and Floyd Hunter. They placed second in the Confer- ence Track Meet. Floyd Aiken, Jim Burks and Jim Craig played Baseball this year. This was the first year since 1923 an annual with a hard back was published. Class officers of the 116 Juniors were Presi- dent Gary Pilgrim, Vice-President Richard Herrin, Secretary Betsy Trahern, Reporter Vicki Ward. Eighteen Juniors reported for Football this season and 14 were lettermen. This was the first year that the main string Basketball team was all Juniors. They won seven games. They elected Kay Ryland queen and Joan Duffield attendant. The Captain was Lewis Davis. Co-captains were Jim Craig and Ronnie Tooley. Six Juniors played with the Baseball team. They participated in eight conference games. Supporting a hard-working Track team were five Juniors, with two returning lettermen, Melton Graham and Lewis Davis, on the relay team. Jawis Bull threw the shot and the discus, while Gary Pilgrim was pole vaulter. Running the mile was Floyd Hunter. Two Juniors were members of the Key Club.
