ful, f QQ ommandin Officer Captain W. Venne Jr., U.S.N. I rw. Our Commanding Officer, Captain A. W. Venne Jr., Was horn in Lawrence, Massachusetts, in 1920. While attending Tufts College in Medford, Mas- sachusetts the World situation was at complete unrest and the German Army began its march. Captain Venne then decided to start, what turned into a Naval Career. Commissioned as Ensign in February 1941, Captain Venne Was first assigned as Engine- ering Officer on the U.S.S. TNDIANAPOLIS. He remained on hoard the U.S.S. INDIANAPOLIS in the PACFLT during World Wiar 11 and engaged in seven major campaigns. At the close of World War 11 Capt. Venne attended Gunnery School in Wash- ington, D. C, and was then assigned as gunnery officer and chief engineer on the U.S.S. Los Angeles QCA 1351 From the U.S.S. LOS ANGELES to the U.S.S. ROCHESTER QCA 1242 as chief Engineer in 1947. lt then became time to go hack to school. Attending Cornell University, majoring in Ear Eastern Studies, Captain Venne graduated on the Deans List. Attending General Line School, he graduated with distinction. In 1957 he Was technical advisor on the Movie Windjammer H. Commands include U.S. MARSH QDE 6995, USS PURDY QDD 7345, and our present ship. Promotions in rank LG. 6f42 LT. 12f42 LCDR 7f45 CDR 7f51 CAPT 4f6O

Executive ffieer LCDR BEATES, the present Executive Qfficer of the U.S.S. PASSUMPSIC, is a graduate of the University of Penn. While attending college he Was a member of the lst Class under the Hollavvay Plan. Upon gradu- ation he was conimissioned an Ensign in the regular Navy and assigned to the U.S.S. Purdy which he served durring the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1954. The U.S.S. Purdy is the same ship that our present Captain, Captain A. W. Venue, had command of dur- ing his time of service. LCDR Beates has serv- ed on Destroyers and Crt is'rs, was Weapons instructor at the University of Rochester in New York, and recently completed duty with CINPAC. LCDR Beates is married and has 2 boys and 2 girls. He Will reside in Long Beach California upon completion of this cruise. LCDR BEATES, U.S.N ,, ,,,. , .,-S -w V.. ,. .,,. .
