l . l? fit? Contestants Compete in Many judgings Competition for the title of Most Beautiful begins with the preliminary judg- ing, when the applicants are narrowed down to thirty-six contestants. On the pageant day, the girls are interviewed by five judges at a tea. This is followed by street clothes judging in which the contestants are scored on poise, natural beauty, and posture. In the evening, at the pageant which is open to the public, the girls appear before the judges in formals. With these scores, fifteen semi- finalists are selected, and from these fifteen girls, the top five girls are chosen. They are then asked a thought provoking question. At last, the judges make their final decision and the 1969 Most Beautiful begins her reign. This year the five girls chosen as finalists are Mary Carrigan, Carol Hoffman, Linda Muecke, Cindy Newell, and Pat Patnesky. Kathie Brinlee, the contestant selected among the girls themselves as friendliest, is Miss Congeniality. relax ddiuhg a lull in one of the manyipractices Mary Carrigan Finalist , .., 4, , K in Linda t Finalist M
